: : : : : : : What do you guys think about hs sports pushing everything back similar to what jcs are doing? Football and basketball would both start late january with a regular 26 game schedule, they would just be in the same season obv. Spring sports get pushed back too. Thoughts? who knows maybe we still might have a regular starting time after the dust settles.

: : : : : : AGREED! AND can we all agree to stop AAU BALL NOW!
: : : : : :JC proposed schedule won't work for CIF.
: : : : : Too many facility conflicts (gym sports - volleyball & basketball going on at the same time, field sports - football & soccer going on at the same time) and multiple sport athletes not being able to compete (many small schools won't be able to field teams without multiple sport athletes). CIF won't go for it especially the multiple sport problem - part of CIF mission is to promote athletes who don't specialize.
: : : : Just cut out JV or Freshman teams, Volleyball games don't take long and the gym can be cleared and cleaned. There would be limited spectators anyway if it does happen. Soccer and Football can also be double-headers.
: : : : Not sure how many two sport athletes there are these days, most athletes I know specialize. Something is better than nothing, if something is possible, and CIF will see it that way.
: : : JC schedule is GREAT.. for JCs. But at the HS level, you have 6 basketball teams and 3 girls VB teams using 1 gym. On days of VB game, BB can't practice and vice versa. 9 teams for 1 gym. not going to happen.
: : : Multi sport athletes will have to choose one over the other. We have a couple that would be in that position and it would kill BOTH teams for them to choose one over the other.
: : : I say go ahead and go in January, but football needs to be 2 or 3 non-league games + league (no more than 7-8 games) then playoffs (8 team bracket). Basketball starts at end of Feb and plays 21-22 games.. maybe less. Done by end of April.
: : I went to a small school in Northern California and to hear that playing two sports is impossible. I did it when I was in school. I played club soccer for the city and was on my high school football team at the same time. I had practices every day for both and football games on Friday with soccer games on Saturday. I would do football practice from 3 pm to 6 pm. I would miss the start of soccer practice but it would run from 5 pm to 7 pm. Out of respect for my teammates on the soccer field I wouldn't start but I was the first substitute in the game usually within the first 5 minutes. As for football I was a back-up wide receiver, tight end and defensive back. Since our school was a football powerhouse our teams were all very good and so I played maybe 40% of the snaps on both sides of ball. Was it tiring yes it was but I was in great shape and both sports helped me develop as a player. I maintained my grades and never missed a day of school. I also played high school soccer and ran track so I was always busy. It was great to have the experience of everything I did in high school. My coaches were very supportive and always looked out for me and made sure that I was good. I loved the challenge and playing both. It can be done and if I am a small school I would encourage my students to do it. It could be the only time this could be done and it would be unfair to make a kid choose between one sport or the other.
: For the person who said cut JV and freshmen teams...high school sports is about participation. If you are so worried about must have to play for title go to club ball circuit.
So, no one participating is better than some? Seniors in their last season of basketball have to yield to freshman volleyball? At least the JV players can play varsity in 2022 if JV is shelved.
