: : : : : : : : The simple answer is to issue Waiver of Liability for those that will allow their sons to play basketball this year. When I woke up today I still am free and live in USA. Families make better choices than governments.
: : : : : : : In a democracy, the social compact that holds us all together is based on the greatest good for the greatest number, while at the same time preserving essential rights not expressly granted to the government. Many people make the fundamental mistake of thinking we all have the right to do whatever we want, whenever we want, consequences to others be damned. That's NOT America. It's not the sort of "freedom" that is among the unalienable rights of man to which the founders referred in the Declaration of Independence.
: : : : : : : There's no better day than the 4th of July to remind ourselves that all of our freedoms have limits, and that the government exists to, among other reasons, exercise what the constitution refers to as the powers implicit to regulate behavior and enforce order for the betterment of the health, safety, morals, and general welfare of the inhabitants of these United States.
: : : : : : : And wen there's a pandemic, a simple waiver may relieve schools from being exposed to liability should someone get sick, but it does nothing to protect the rest of us.
: : : : : : : Time to look at the forest, not just the trees. Wise up. This pandemic and the massive loss of life we've already experienced, and that yet to be seen, is bigger and far more important than whether little Johnny or Susie get to bounce a ball.
: : : : : : Agree with original poster. Second poster is controlled under piped piper and is easily manipulated.
: : : : : To date Confirmed cases 11,099,645 Deaths 525,557 World totals. About 3.5% Common flu about same. WAKE UP You are being lied to. Even Leo Terrell, NAACP high ranking member finally woke up!!! Democrats started the KKK and much worse been lying to those that are eaily manipulated as stated above.
: : : : Any more bot-inspired ramblings you'd like to regurgitate? Your assertion is from a debunked Fakebook post from 2017. And Leo Turrell hasn't been with the NAACP for quite some time.
: : : : The death rate of the flu is 0.1%. Covid is estimated at 0.7-1.0%, but we haven't been through the worst yet.
: : : : The Democrats of the 19th-early 20th centuries would vote Republican today, and vice versa. Strom Thurmond, a segregationist Dixiecrat who once filibustered for over 24 hours to block a Civil Rights Bill, became a Republican in the 1970s after splitting from the Democrats in 1948.
: : : : Secondly, the KKK was not started by any political party. The founding members likely voted Democrat, but that was to oppose the more progressive Republicans of their time.
: : : : Back to the original post, the waivers won't really matter if gatherings of over 10 people are not permitted by the state governor. The virus is circulating in record amounts, and once people's resistance drops this fall (as it does every flu season), the death toll will skyrocket.
: : : : Think about it, the virus was barely circulating early February, two months from the end of flu season. This flu season, it will have the entire five months and will be starting with millions of cases instead of a few thousand. At this point, Covid deniers are walking like lambs to a slaughter, ironically helping bring about the fascism and loss of liberty and livelihood they warned us of.
: : : Waivers, corona virus don't care about any stinking waivers.
: : Corona virus may not care about waivers but lawyers do and if one is signed they arenít able to go after you
: If gatherings of 10 or more people indoors are banned, a waiver may also be needed for the games to be played on concrete blacktops outside.
: Or maybe you can make a really big hole through your school gym's roof?
: If corona is circulating in large quantities, enough for all non-essential indoor activity to be banned by state governors, getting parents to sign waivers for outdoor games would be difficult. Few if any high schools would even take the risk, and the only sports would be a loose grouping of sporadic club ball tournaments in places like Pocatello.
General consensus is there will be NO HS hoops this year. Too many obstacles to overcome. I know coaches who want to retire or quit. I know refs who dont want to be around groups of people. Parents are worried and rightfully so. This pandemic is the worst thing to hit us in our lifetime. Unfortunately, High School basketball takes back seat at a time like this.
