: : : : I have talked with a few ADs in Socal and plans are in the works to reopen some form of summer programs and fall ball. But the two unanswered questions remain (and as far as I know no one can answer these questions as of yet) = what happens when the first athlete, coach, trainer and or etc. develops Covid19 at a school/facility? If a procedure is not in place - we all know what will happen - a gut check emotional response and programs will have to come to a screeching halt. This happened a few days ago at the University of Houston, where several football players who were doing voluntary drills contracted Covid. Within two hours all programs at the University were shut down. CIF or each school district must have a plan for what happens when one or more players get sick. This is inevitable. It would be better for CIF to dictate the plan so that schools all know what is going to happen. The second question is - how will games be contested? Will schools have testing facilities? Will refs, trainers, players from both teams, and etc. be tested the day of a contest? Temperatures taken at the door and etc. If a plan is not in place we risk hysterical reactions when Covid19 strikes.
: : : Was reported 2 of the 147 football players at Iowa State tested positive and 8 other student athletes but I did not read they were closing the school/facility down, just self quarantine, so I guess they are going to see how this plays out. I'm guessing it won't go so well, but we shall see with time.
: : Right now, the national high school guidelines have been set for all sports. I know for basketball, we will be able to start practices with 10 players or less and one coach in the gym.
: : * Each player with their own basketball.
: : * No sharing of basketballs..meaning no passing, no rebounding for someone else.
: : * 6 foot distancing off the court
: : * Players enter in one door. Must leave out another.
: : * All balls and equipment must be wiped down after use and before the next use.
: : * Each player must have their temperature taken before practice.
: : This will all start if our district agrees and okays the guidelines. We could begin practicing as early as June 25.
: Hopefully they'll take a look at this interesting article: https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/16/health/children-teenagers-half-covid-study-19-intl-scli/index.html
That is not basketball. And it's not basketball practice. Just shows we are not ready to open yet, and not ready to have sports yet
