: No fall sports.

: No contact sports in Winter.

: We'll see where things go from here, but between slashed budgets and covid risks (especially in California) can't imagine a basketball season happening next school year.

Contact tracing and lots of testing, combined with (hopefully) a low rate of new infections throughout the summer gives some hope for sports this fall/winter. Seems the warmer weather is in fact lowering the rate of serious infections, this being a respiratory illness. CA may have set a record for deaths yesterday, but hospitalizations continued to fall again this past week in our state. Also, the virus is not remaining viable on surfaces after all, only RNA fragments that do not cause infections are left after a few minutes.

Colder weather has the opposite effect, as we're seeing in the Southern Hemisphere. Brazil, who had been doing well, is now seeing a spike in cases as winter is just a month away. Rio and Sao Paulo actually get a bit chilly, relatively speaking, in June/July.

If the season is canceled before school starts, there could be a mass exodus of CA high school players to prep schools, hope we can avoid that.
