: Ok. I am a High School basketball coach in serious basketball withdrawal. I was getting my team ready for Spring ball and now its on pause for who knows how long. So, I need my basketball coaching fix somehow. So, what I am going to do every day. is try to put up some kind of basketball coaching question that can be discussed on this board. So here we go:
: What, in your opinion, is the best Zone Defense and why. Explain why, type of personnel needed, and its weaknesses.
I love matchup zones. Many coaches don't know what to run against them which makes teams have to free flow. People don't teach it very well or understand specific rotations which makes trying to break it very hard. If a team runs a good matchup they are usually pretty solid on D. Bonita ran a great matchup zone last year. Bottom line is you play a 2-3 when you want teams to shoot from the outside, you play a 3-2 when its mostly guard play and aren't afraid of true posts. Biggest weakness is teaching rebounding out of zones.
