Alyssa Frescas had 21 points and Brooke Demetre added 15 points for Mater Dei (24-2), ranked No. 4 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports. Soleil Montrose contributed nine points for the Monarchs, who won their eighth in a row overall.

Kiernan coached at Westminster La Quinta from 1985-90, Troy from 1997-2007 and has been at Mater Dei from 2008 to the present.

Kiernan, who is 799-102 in his 28th season coaching high school girls basketball, will have his first opportunity to earn victory No. 800 at 7:30 p.m. Friday when Mater Dei plays host to Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas (15-9) at the Nike Extravaganza at Meruelo Athletic Center.

Kiernan would become the 32nd all-time high school girls basketball coach in the country to reach 800 career victories, including the 10th active coach, according to the NFHS Record Book.
