: : : : Coaches you are driving me crazy
: : : : I go thru the different divisions and see where the coaches have teams ranked and it baffles me when 2 teams played head to head and you still rank the loser over the winner. I get it, sometimes you say it went into OT like Poly (who hasnít lost yet this season and is still ranked #2) over Mater Dei (still ranked #1) or it was a close game like some other divisions, but then I come across 2 teams where one beat the other by 30+ points. Really and you still rank them higher than the other. I know there are rumblings in the HS Southern Section football world of doing away with the coaches polls and going strictly by a formula for seeding, well with some of the division polls right now I can see why there is a push for that. These divisional coaches polls deserve better and some of the coordinators need to either be more transparent with their results or do a better job of educating their voter base.

: : : Give an example of the point you mare making please

: : Formulas never account for injury, kids missing a game, etc. Sometimes coaches might "see" something.

: The early season polls have very little value. Once we get to mid/late January they are usually pretty accurate. Coaches who vote care and put time into it. There are one offs sometimes but usually a season's worth of data is better than 8-12 games.

If they put time and effort into it why are they not considering head to head games, or is it more nuanced than that and us little people wouldn't understand you can't just look at the actual results on the hardwood.
