: : : My daughters HS team shoots between 35-40 three pointers per game. They do not seem to be very good at shooting three pointers as a team. They make about 24% from three point. Is this a good percentage for a girls team. If not, what would be a good percentage for girls high school? Just trying to educate myself a bit. Thanks in advance.
: : ::: No ... 24% is not a good percentage from 3 pt. range for a high school team. If the squad is not shooting between 30-40% in games from that range, they’re taking too many of them, and they’ve got too many players trying to shoot them. Not only are they sacrificing 2pt shots closer to the rim and possible free throws on drives to the hoop ... but they are also helping the opponent because missed long 3pt shots often lead to long rebounds and fast break layups for the other team. Most squads only have one or two players who shoot a decent percentage. In my opinion, the 3pt line should be removed from the HS game and youth ball. Unfortunately, many coaches now encourage this nonsense cuz their team is small or they think shooting a large volume will result in a few makes. But the kids develop terrible shooting mechanics trying to hit 3s ... and think they are Steph Curry even though they can’t make a layup consistently.
: BS if they're making 24% that's 9 or 10 threes a game which is 27-30 points. Play good defense and convert some 2's and free throws, rebound, get some steals and that enough to win every game.
Can't make a layup yet complaining about shooting 24% from 3????????????
My team just shot under 20% from inside the arc with 30+ TOs in a game so if my team could I would take 24% from 3. It is relative to your skill level and what they are capable of doing. If they can shoot 50% inside than no 24% is not good (would need to be in the 30s%), but if they can't score inside why not let it fly from outside.
Sounds like their kid isn't getting theirs so they complain about the teammates and coach
