: Travel coach is playing my kid in a game. I was told by one parent we could get into trouble. Then I was told by another parent it was fine. This travel coach is a asst. coach at a high school. I thought it was ok. Please help is it ok for her to play are not? She is on her high school team.
In the City Section only the "season" began today. In the CIF-Southern Section, the "season" begins only when a team plays its first interscholastic game (an official game against another school team). Anything before that is not considered the "seasons of sport".
I think the person asking the question was asking something different, that is, can a high school player participate on a club team coached by an assistant from the player's high school without jeopardizing the player's eligibility. The answer is "yes" he can play on a club team coached by an assistant who is on the staff of his high school team. But once the "season of sport" has begun, he can only compete for his high school team. Any "outside competition" for a club team will make him ineligible for his high school team regardless of who the coach of the club team is.
