: : : I saw my share of games this summer and fall. Here is my list of teams I believe to be open-bound based on my views. Feel free to add or take away, but for Gods sake please no childish name calling.
: : : 1. LB Poly. Solid squad, decent coach, size and speed.
: : : 2. ML King. Solid squad, really good coach, lacking size, but great guard play.
: : : 3. Centennial. Solid squad, decent coach, all-around balanced team.
: : : 4. Orangewood Academy. Solid squad, really good coach, combo of size and guard play.
: : : 5. Mater Dei. They got it all.
: : : 6. Rosary. Injury hurt, but still solid. Need size.
: : : 7. Windward. Defending Open champions. Enough said.
: : : 8. Sierra Canyon. Interesting team. Curious to see where they end up.
: : : 9. Etiwanda. Joke of a coach, but athletic team with size and guard play.
: : So you like King but hate Etiwanda. Can you elaborate on "Joke of a Coach" comment?
: LoL!!! and he said no childish? LoL!!!
Mater Dei looks really good and might even be better next year since they aren't graduating anyone of great importance. I didn't see anyone better than them.
Orangewood looks great on paper, now to see if coach can get it done on his end.
Etiwanda is a powerhouse, not sure why all the hate for the coach. They will be on this list for years.
Sierra Canyon and Chaminade I have not seen but have heard they look good.
Rosary had a rotation player transfer out and probably their best player went down for the season so look for them to take a step back.
Windward graduated just about the entire team except for Williams who can't do it all by herself. Look for them to also take a step back unless coach can work miracles. It will also be interesting to see how coach gets along with the incoming freshman's high maintenance mom.
Cen10 wasn't good enough to beat King last year, not sure why they are getting so much love this year. Did they pick up transfers?
King is small but very talented. Hopefully they will schedule some tougher non-league games this season so we can get a better idea where they stand.
Poly has an excellent 2021 class and some good 2020 guards along with a very effective big who committed to CSUF. Daddy ball has become an issue though and kids have transferred out the last couple years. Jury remains out.
Bishop Montgomery has fallen completely off the map and off the table.
Redondo is always solid but it remains to be seen if they have enough to be Open. I am guessing they won't.
West plays hard but without length can they get to the Open? I don't think so, but they will challenge for another D1 title.
HW - love that big kid but they probably can't get to Open unless they have transfers I haven't heard about.
Serra doesn't get much talk but they could potentially contend.
Troy has another year but they weren't the strongest Open pick last year and might not have enough to get there this year either.
So my list would probably be:
1-4 (probably in) - Sierra Canyon, Etiwanda, Mater Dei, Chaminade
5-8 (bubble teams) - Windward, King, Cen10, Poly, Orangewood, Serra, HW
Probably out - Bishop Montgomery, Redondo, West, Troy, Rosary
But it always changes once the games get played. Should be a fun season. Good luck to everyone!
