: : Any new intel on changes this year? Someone said earlier that conference record would be weighted more heavily? That would make sense.

: Many/most leagues are created geographically, not competitively. Most leagues have 1-2 teams that are way better than everyone else. So putting more weight on league play - that you can't control - only hurts competitiveness in the playoffs - which is the ultimate goal.

: Take the league with Windward. Windward and Sierra Canyon are state level contenders pretty much year in and year out.

: They both pretty much blow everyone else in their league out by 50+. A couple years ago Sierra Canyon beat a team in their league by 70 points and didn't suit up their starters.

: I'm sure there are plenty of other examples.

There is no perfect formula because you are always using the last 2 years of a team's results.. no team is the same as 2 years ago.... they may have graduated everyone or might all be juniors now and much improved....

Using league as more weightier is definitely NOT a good solution because of the aforementioned inconsistencies throughout the league... as the previous poster said, leagues are imbalanced... Another problem is some leagues play 14 games, others play 8....

Again, no perfect system... just trying to level the playing field, and for the most part, it seemed to work ok last year... Certain teams (think Los Osos) benefited from 2 horrible years and then being placed in 3A. This year they will be readjusted and most likely in 1A..

With the current ranking format, I don't think you can ever prevent this from happening due to transfers, coaching changes, new frosh, etc. CIF is trying to balance it, but it will never be perfect and that's ok....
