: : : : : : : : Huh?? Are you serious? I have seen players develop rapidly under Close as a coach, especially her post players. I have also seen significant improvement in Canada's overall game under Close. I beg to differ with the previous post that referred to her as a great recruiter only.

: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : I think most people who really pay attention would say she is a decent not great coach.

: : : : : : : She is really nice and a good recruiter. But she gets outcoached in games and I don't believe players improve enough.

: : : : : : : But we can agree to disagree.

: : : : : : Close is never up for another big coaching job. Her name is never mentioned by the fans when one comes up and neither are her assistant coaches.

: : : : : : I think she's a nice lady, a decent coach, a great recruiter but has created an average program. However, UCLA has become a fairly average athletic program so she fits in.

: : : : : Do you even follow UCLA athletics outside of women's basketball, football? Please refer to the number of NCAA championships for all sports.

: : : : : I continue to root for Close, she's built a program that has a great deal of integrity, focuses on development of PEOPLE. Women's bball is not a big money draw for colleges outside of select few programs. I think what she's doing there is infinitely more valuable than chasing more and more wins.

: : : : Just to emphasize that comment about UCLA being average in athletics: UCLA women have won team National Championships in the last 10 years in Golf, Gymnastics, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Volleyball and Water Polo.

: : : Waiting for the answer. Stanford just passed UCLA and USC will do so in the next few years.

: : "How many this year". Ha ha ha ha, what an idiotic statement. So if UConn fails to win the national championship "this year" will they not be a successful program? Speaking of which, compare UCLA to UConn in academics and total athletic performance. UConn is the absolute platinum standard in one sport, which is fantastic. UCLA has a breadth of excellence in multiple, and in academics.

: : I'll save my breath. This forum is not known for high level discussions.

: UCLA has been fading in athletics for several years. Lots of problems, coaching, money, AD, etc. The fact that they can be competitive in many sports is a definite testament but it's also clear that their days as the premier sports university is definitely over and a look at the results over the past few years confirms it.

: Oh, and the number is one, water polo, something that even UCLA fans are upset about.

You really aren't supporting your statements with anything in regards to "days as the premier sports university" being over. 1 national championship last year...UCLA fans are upset. OK, does that tarnish their accomplishments? And you can predict the future?

Someone mentioned that they will boldly predict that UCLA will never win a women's basketball national championship. Will USC?

This forum is filled with self-proclaimed Nostradami who likely could never attend any of these institutions.
