: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Saw them in the WCP tournament a few days ago and today at the Storm Event. They were playing with a team called Starting5. Anyone know why?
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : They were blowing everyone out with the new team.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : S5 is playing at a lower tier. Not same division as Taurasi or WCP Black.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :::: So they left Storm to play in a lower division? S5 is only 1 division lower. That doesn't make sense.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : was it for playing time?
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : Hopefully they get the "viewing' they need playing at lower level. You get what you pay for....
: : : : : : : : : : : : Nike season is over, who cares who they play for now. The Storm was terrible this year, maybe they want to show what they can do. And why do you care, its their life, not yours, they can live it how they want
: : : : : : : : : : : : Hopefully some D1 coaches know they are playing down. They were all at the Taurasi and WCP Black games. Too bad they transferred to lower club, they lost their opportunities to be viewed by D1 recruiters. Oh well....
: : : : : : : : : : Taurasi played in front of 40 coaches today. The club they played for was about 1-2 coaches each game. Bad choice.
: : : : : : : : : I heard they left because they were not fond of George and because of the limited playing time. Taurasi was weak this year with and without the twins. Watched them lose to an average team last night at their own tournament. And no excuses, they had their starting line up in that game to begin and end the loss to Fever.
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : "Not fond of George" is being heard more and more this year - by players, parents, other club directors (NCAA Certification issue).
: : : : : : : : Several tournaments I have seen him coaching the 15 National team over Taurasi.
: : : : : : : : I know of some players he is already trying to get for next year and their parents are laughing about it.
: : : : : : : : With rumors of Nike pulling one of the SoCal teams, is Storm in danger? Or does the link with Taurasi, one of the few actual Nike women's players, spare them?
: : : : : : : : You should put all your energy getting college scholarship for your daughter instead of trying to bash your daughter's previous coach. Stop hating (-;
: : : : : : We're all full of good and bad experieinces. If people just share the good, then they're all fake (like whoever just gave a speech about your daughter's scholarship). ***Everyone, the twins left, because they felt like they were treated POORLY and weren't given the time they needed to show what they can do. If anyone feels that way, then leave WHENEVER feel you need to and don't worry about someone judging you. Without risk, there can be no gain. And doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results is just insane. With that being said, I saw coaches stopping by and peeking in on them on the court with Starting 5. UC Irvine was one of many that watched them for a lengthy time with Starting 5 last week, as a matter of fact. I'm sure they'll be just fine. But they felt better that a coach respected their talents and would put them on the court, rather than sit down most of the game to watch Taurasi lose anyway. Interesting how not playing everyone with good minutes still ended up in a losing season. Sidenote- Maybe, just maybe, everyone could have played since you lost game after game anyway coach.........I'm sure you beat the teams that didn't matter though... I mean, if you won, it would have made sense...but.... you didn't....players would have been seen, exposed, given a chance to keep their confidence and win a few colleges over... you still lose this season, like you did, and the players all get seen...just a thought. But who am I???? No one.... just an observer who knows nothing (wink)
: : : : : Isn't the whole point of travel ball/NCAA viewing tournaments getting seen by college coaches? If the twins are sitting on their behinds, regardless of the "prestige" of the team they are on, are they going to be seen by the coaches they want to impress?
: : : : :The twins weren't the only ones that got limited playing time in Chicago. But the ones that stayed on played plenty at Irvine 3 day Grand Finale tournament in front of scouts from all over the country.
: : : : I don't get it, by the Chicago event you've already paid in full for the season. Why transfer to a lower club playing at lower tournaments with only 2 or 3 coaches watching at each games.
: : : Because their mom continues to make awful choices.
: : My daughter plays on a local EYBL team. I've watched many Taurasi games and without a doubt it's the coaching not the players on the team. George has his favorites! I watched him leave some players on the court regardless of how many turnovers or bad shots they took while leaving other players on the bench. That team is a pretty talented team and he just didn't maximize the use of his players. They lost close games in Nike nationals by a few points and games they should have won. George couldn't pull it off because he wouldn't put the right combination of players on the court.
: You don't need an EYBL team to get your daughter watched by colleges. Plenty of kids get offers every year without playing the Nike circuit. But if you do play the Nike circuit you have the chance to be seen by a wider variety of schools. It's a choice each family has to make for their child - potentially more playing time on a team with potentially lower exposure. There's no right or wrong. If you feel like your daughter isn't a good fit where she is then move her somewhere else.
There are plenty of people who don't like George and the Storm program whether they play(ed) for him or not.
He has always played favorites. If you aren't on Taurasi or National, then you are just writing him a check. Their tournaments are over-hyped and overly expensive - fees, parking, high entry fee. They make promises of playing in certain divisions then do the old bait-and-switch. Their tournaments have such a bad reputation now they had to switch the name to "Elite Girls Exposure" just to deceive again.
He's already trying to get girls for next year from other teams. And don't forget all the emails they will send out about their program using all the info you provided for college coaches for the tournaments that weren't certified.
And let's not talk about his "pipeline" programs - first it was Alemany, then the Ribet fiasco. Who knows now.
As poster above mentioned, you don't need an EYBL team to get looks. Just find the right coach and right program. But if you are going EYBL, make sure you are either one of the best ones or one of the favorites. Players 9-1X on EYBL teams are selling themselves short.
