: : : : : : : : : 6 wins in 36 games. Tough season for the so cal teams. Time to consolidate forces.

: : : : : : : : Having multiple so cal teams wasn't an issue before. Talent is just light for class of 2018

: : : : : : : Not much talent in Southern California this year period.

: : : : : : We keep saying it and a few keep denying it. The girls are heading toward volleyball and soccer. Basketball is no longer the preferred sport. There are fewer girls and there are fewer elite girls. This is the new normal.

: : : : : It always goes in cycles. It has always gone in cycles. It will always go in cycles. Talent and participation peaked about 8 years ago here in Orange County. It held up pretty well for a few years after that, then began to fall pretty steadily. There's probably a couple more years before it bottoms out and then it will start to rise again. That's not to say there aren't great players and great teams out there, but the overall numbers and depth drop.

: : : : We saw some great times twenty years ago. That was when the game was really flourishing and all girls wanted to play basketball at all levels. Lots of public high schools have dropped freshman and JV teams because of lack of interest and the ones who make varsity are often there simply because they were the only ones who showed up. Look at the park and recs leagues and they are again creating coed leagues because the interest in girls basketball is so low. And it's more than that. The talent level, even at the elite level is very low. The girls are better athletes but they aren't better players. Ballhandling, passing, and especially shooting are all much worse than even ten years ago. Even if there is a resurgence of interest in the sport, SoCal has to deal with the reality of poor coaching and lack of opportunity.

: : : Also, with the growth of BEach Volleyball having scholarships avaialble at the 4 year collegiate level, more players are playing that sport becuase it is easier to get a scholarship. THat sport is growing like a WEED and the opportunity is PLENTIFUL to get a scholarship.

: : Now a days in not hard to get a scholarship either. I know a few kids in the 2017 class that do not belong where they are at and the only reason they got there is because they were the best in their class. (WHICH SAYS A LOT ABOUT THAT CLASS) Also, let's talk about youth basketball and how it has taken a dramatic turn for the worst. The problem isn't because kids are picking other sports, the problem is that every kid wants to be number one and for obvious reasons that is not possible. When mommy and daddy aren't happy with a kids playing time, they leave to somewhere new instead of making them work to get better. Not to mention the fact that if every kid on the team gets a trophy for being there, how many kids are really going to work at getting better? Not too many.

: : My opinion is the 2018 class is one of the weakest classes ever. The problems you mentioned above have been around for quite sometime, players switching teams etc. bottom line is talent in SoCal is way down! And yes kids are also picking other sports over basketball now as well and this is continuing to be the trend and will only get worse.

: All these nay sayers are parents of kids that didn't make the cut, lol. Dang parents still bitter they kids didn't make the top and National WCP-Storm teams. Let it go, there's always next year.

Yes, there's volleyball and soccer go there. Maybe you kids in the wrong sport. Basketball is not an easy sport, otherwise everyone will be playing basketball.

If you think it's all about putting the ball in the rim then you need to get a trainer for your kid. Otherwise years will pass and your kid is still playing like a rec player.
