: : : : : : Hi I am new to the travel world. I have heard that kids always play "down" and now. A month into the summer after signing my teams up for their age appropriate divisions, all we have done is play against teams and kids at least one year older and in most cases it seems 2. Why in the world do teams do this ? Are winning games in June against kids 2 years younger then you that important to the coaches and parents? Someone please explain.
: : : : : Those guys need to win to keep the money coming in so playing down is needed for all inferior wanna be coaches. This is their livelihood so they will do most anything.
: : : : As a travel ball parent-the most important thing in the summer is consistent game time against the best competition possible. I'm not about to pay $300/month and up for my kid to sit on her butt...if she's not playing regular minutes-we are gone....I couldn't care less about the coaches' won/loss record-in fact the coaches in the summer that emphasize this are generally not quality coaches.
: : : : Even on high-level teams-what you pay for is exposure to college coaches. If your kid is sitting, how much exposure are they getting- even if it's on a "elite" team?

: : : Poster above is correct. Because there is no regulation in the club/travel world, anyone can start a team and play wherever and whenever and against whoever they want.
: : : Because it is an income stream for them, being able to say they are Park n Rec Invitational Champions is a big deal. And if it takes playing down to do it, so be it.
: : : The other issue is the parents - even more than the kids - want to win tourneys to say their kid is on a championship team - no matter what tourney it is.
: : : My daughter has been playing club since 6th grade. She has always played "up" except 8th grade (when there is no high school) and now when the highest you can play is HS Elite.
: : : But everyone is different. We have plenty of trophies and t-shirts. So playing better teams and losing is better than pounding weaker teams. That's how you get better.
: : Lol!!! Park and Rec. good one. I agree.
: Tell your daughter to take pride that the other team felt like they needed to bring older kids to beat her. If your daughter is good she should be playing up anyway.
: Just curious. Were you playing Whittier Hawks? Or EBO?
It was not Whittier Hawks or EBO..
Thank you for all the responses, you guys pretty much filled in the blanks for me and proved many of my assumptions to be correct. Sad man..
