: : : : : : : : : : : I heard el camino and granada hills played chaminade at viewpoint yesterday
: : : : : : : : : : : did anyone see the game? and how did they do?
: : : : : : : : : : Both Nade and El Camino were down a couple of starters. Chaminade came out strong and built big halftime lead. Rodriguez on fire draining open 3's in first half for Nade. El Camino cranked up their defense and rebounding and outplayed Nade in second half. But too little too late. Nade won by 11.
: : : : : not fair or accurate to compare a national club team, where only the best players are chosen to play- to a hs team. i'm sure the 15 cal storm national team would beat some of the best private HS teams. and that national team is not all freshman, a few sophs and a hold back or 2
: : : : : : : : : : In second game, Granada was down starting big, but early on it didn't matter as their press pushed the pace and it bothered Chaminade. Granada up like 12 at half. Second half Chaminade chipped away at lead and forced overtime. Nade by 1 in overtime.
: : : : : : : : : : General impressions:
: : : : : : : : : : Chaminade - will still be solid with full team, but loss of Iwahashi to knee injury will hurt them, especially they will miss her speed. Playing Whitfield at PG is interesting. Moore looks more engaged in middle. Rodriguez can hit 3's in bunches if left open. Hit like 5 against ECR but struggled a bit shooting against Granada.
: : : : : : : : : : El Camino - hardly look like the unit of last year. New coach means new systems and they don't look comfortable. They didn't press until the last minute which is very un-ECR. Offense doesn't look fluid. Hamilton can't get open shots because of bad spacing. No one is helping Jacks on the boards. Thought Saidoff was a bright spot. Playing with more confidence and composure. Have to see how the rest of the summer goes for this squad.
: : : : : : : : : : Granada - Granada is...Granada. Some new players, same efficiency. Big girl from all-star game is big and can board, but she is slow and can be neutralized by pushing pace. Mitchell still calmly runs team and gets the ball where it needs to be. Jumper better too. Miranda a big piece for them as she is their most athletic player and she wasn't there. A couple of girls from the JV team last year looked pretty good. Granada one of the few schools that develops players on JV who contribute at varsity level.
: : : : : : : : : : Obviously early, but by November all three should be Top 10 in area, but probably not Top 5.
: : : : : : : : : El Camino has the most overrated talent in all of LA. The girls are average at best. They will win nothing. Granada has a much better coach and team.
: : : : : : : : Granada was stump by CalStorm freshmen team in April at Balboa Hills tournament, lost by like 30+ points.
: : : : : : : Not that its a big difference but if you are going to make a comment be sure to get correct facts. It was the 15u cal storm National team and it was 21 points.
: : : : : : : That's a big lost specially to a freshmen team. Maybe they were missing starters or didn't play that hard since it was a summer/spring ball. They supposed to be good right?

: : : Please, stop comparing what happens in club to the high school year. It's like comparing apples to oranges. City is pretty bad this coming season but fairfax and Granada is my prediction for the city championship. Elco doesnt have the talent, I heard more players are transferring from pali, what is going on with that school? Narbonne is a sleeper and Carson will have to be in the mix if they get MJ. Am I missing any team? Southern section is off the charts loaded this year!!
: : I agree with the last post, chaminade had el camino 22-4 to start game it was never a close game, granada came out wanting to beat chaminade but couldn't put them away, i have fairfax and granada in next years final and have narbonne, el camino, pali and carson in order, but keep an eye on birminham also., keep in mind it's early but city school have most of their players playing for them in summer, and southern section school only have have a few varsity and jv players for summer league games.
: Very true. A lot of these teams have only partials playing right now, as others are out of town for various reasons...some being their club teams and college visits and camps during June. Anyone choosing teams bases on what's happening now, may be way off when everyone is settled back on their teams. Even waiting for fall leagues to happen would be a better time to give predictions, at this point. Everyone's back and focused only on high school. Just a thougt...
Take the Burroughs games yesterday. No one is at full strength. Granada had everyone but Miranda. Burroughs didn't have their big volleyball player. Canyon was missing at least their big girl. Ventura was missing at least 3 starters. So was El Camino and Harvard Westlake. Even the coach for Harvard Westlake wasn't there.
This has always been the case during summer, but this year it seems to be the case even more than usual.
And with July coming up, almost everyone is gone with their club teams for most or all of the month.
Should be a good time for some younger players to get some game minutes.
