: : : I heard el camino and granada hills played chaminade at viewpoint yesterday
: : : did anyone see the game? and how did they do?
: : Both Nade and El Camino were down a couple of starters. Chaminade came out strong and built big halftime lead. Rodriguez on fire draining open 3's in first half for Nade. El Camino cranked up their defense and rebounding and outplayed Nade in second half. But too little too late. Nade won by 11.
: : In second game, Granada was down starting big, but early on it didn't matter as their press pushed the pace and it bothered Chaminade. Granada up like 12 at half. Second half Chaminade chipped away at lead and forced overtime. Nade by 1 in overtime.
: : General impressions:
: : Chaminade - will still be solid with full team, but loss of Iwahashi to knee injury will hurt them, especially they will miss her speed. Playing Whitfield at PG is interesting. Moore looks more engaged in middle. Rodriguez can hit 3's in bunches if left open. Hit like 5 against ECR but struggled a bit shooting against Granada.
: : El Camino - hardly look like the unit of last year. New coach means new systems and they don't look comfortable. They didn't press until the last minute which is very un-ECR. Offense doesn't look fluid. Hamilton can't get open shots because of bad spacing. No one is helping Jacks on the boards. Thought Saidoff was a bright spot. Playing with more confidence and composure. Have to see how the rest of the summer goes for this squad.
: : Granada - Granada is...Granada. Some new players, same efficiency. Big girl from all-star game is big and can board, but she is slow and can be neutralized by pushing pace. Mitchell still calmly runs team and gets the ball where it needs to be. Jumper better too. Miranda a big piece for them as she is their most athletic player and she wasn't there. A couple of girls from the JV team last year looked pretty good. Granada one of the few schools that develops players on JV who contribute at varsity level.
: : Obviously early, but by November all three should be Top 10 in area, but probably not Top 5.
: Elco could have beat chaminade, the team still needs time to gel with new coach. The 2 best players are still there, too early to tell. Granada should have beat chaminade. Miranda was out, that would have ensured a win over chaminade. 2 bigs are strong on the board, Mitchell still leads team well, good coaching. Lots of potential here. Chaminade had some players out, which would have helped them. again too early to say.
All three teams will be better. Chaminade had a couple players hurt, Miranda out for Granada, and ECR missing a couple starters and has new coach.
ECR presses all the time and didn't against Chaminade until last two minutes. Might have been different game from the start if they had pressed.
Granada was only missing Miranda, but with all the graduations, she is vitally important to what they are trying to do.
Chaminade was missing one of their more athletic players. The more they can incorporate Moore into the offense down low it will open things up for Whitfield to drive and Rodriguez to hit open 3's.
