: : : : : : : : : : : : : $500 for 4 games????? That is way overpriced.

: : : : : : : : : : : COACH "STEAL" - u killing me man! 5 bones to play up in your tourney???????

: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : Well if you ever been to the tournament you would know we pay the table and the shot clock person for each game and we have a hospitality room so all the coaches and referees can eat and have some refreshments after every game. Trust me the last thing I would do is "steal" money that's not coming out your pocket lol.

: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : $500 is more than I think Palisades and Redondo charge and those are high level tourneys.

: : : : : : : : : Who is playing in this? Need to know the level of competition before thinking of shelling out that kind of $$$.

: : : : : : : : Says it all does it not!

: : : : : : : Mot 4 game tourneys are between 400 and 500. Refs for 4 games comes out to 300.00. Awards, tee shirts, Isn't a school allowed to make a little. Lets say there are 12-14 teams and the profit is 100.00 each per team split between two schools. Why is that so bad. Make some money at the door. Both St Marys and Culver are self funded so making 1500-2000 per school for the tourney with door is standard and helps pay for the program for the year.

: : : : : : : Come on guys. These are HS programs. Think of club programs that pay refs 25 per game and charge 300. Then charge 10 or 15 at door. Thats robbery. The money is going to a good cause, not in peoples pockets.

: : : : : : : Shhheeeesh

: : : : : : :$500 for 4 games, that's freekin robbery.

: : : : : Most Schools also have to provide Security and Janitor service and those funds come out of the Entry and Gate Fees. High School Tourneys make nothing.

: : : : Not one 4 game tournament out there is less than 400.00. NOT ONE! 75 percent are between 400 and 450. So calling 500 robbery is a bit much. So they are 50-100 overpriced. Hardly robbery.

: : :
: : : So I'm guessing the people who said it's robbery to charge $500 for a tournament never ran a tournament, so let me break it down for you. First off you have to pay for the security guard from the first game to the last game and that can run you about $15 dollars a hour for 4hrs so your set back $60 out the gate. Then you have to pay the janitor for 2 hrs after each day to make sure the bathrooms and gym is clean and that's another $30 dollars a day. Then you have to pay the clock person at least $10 dollars a game because some schools don't let kids work the clock now do to the coaches screaming at them so now your down another $40 dollars. Last but not least each ref gets $71 dollars per game so for one game your set back $142 per game. So let's add the totals for one game
: : : Security $15 +clock person $10 + Refs $142= $167 a game.Now times $167x 4 = $668 that's your cost per day to run a tournament. So for 4 days $668 x 4 = $2,672 +$120 for your janitor your set back $2,882 and that's not including tournament Tees and trophies. Now who is getting robbed.

: : :So what you are saying then is that Pali, Burroughs, Redondo, etc... are operating for a lost? These schools are known for hosting great events for years yet they cost less than $500.

: Your math is off a little there. Lets say you need the security (not all schools need this) plus of course the clock person and refs, that is $167 according to you. That is fine. Let's say that is right. $500 for four games is $125 a game. The problem is you act like only one team plays at a time, but it is two. So two teams playing that one game, then they are bringing in $250 for that one game that costs $167. That is an $83 profit per game you host.

: Obviously you have other expenses like the janitor, trophies, maybe even shirts for the kids. Keep in mind though that you also get the gate. Each game has two teams playing. Let's say you (conservatively) have ten paying parents per team, per game. If you charge $7 at the door (I have seen more and less) then you are bringing in an additional $140 a game or more.

: So if you have a 16 team tournament, which is 8 games a day, you are making at least $223 a game. I think the $6,000+ (you don't count the entry fee for the two host teams) is more than enough for those shirts, trophies, and janitor.

: WITH ALL OF THAT SAID, as the one poster above pointed out, this all takes a lot of work and a lot of supervision. Having two schools make $2,000 each (plus a free tournament) is a good thing and a worthy cause of us to support.

Redondo tournament is $525
