: : : : : : : from the LA Times
: : : : : : : The CIF Federated Council voted Friday to revise the wording of its state transfer rule, taking away the power of section commissioners to declare an athlete ineligible for transferring for sports reasons.
: : : : : : : Now students can transfer for whatever reason, including sports motivation. It was approved 100-38.
: : : : : : : Still in place is the requirement to change residences or be forced to sit out 30 days or longer. Also students cannot follow their coach to another school and recruiting remains illegal.
: : : : : : : The revision was pushed because parents were being punished for speaking honestly about their decision while those who kept quiet were allowed to transfer without a penalty.
: : : : : : : By allowing sports reasons for transferring, it does add another level of freedom to parents and athletes to simply switch schools when they are unhappy about a coach or program.

: : : : : : :Is this official? What's the sit out period for such transfer?
: : : : :
: : : : : Sit out period is the same
: : : : : Only new thing is people don't have to lie about why they are transferring
: : : :
: : : : :"Still in place is the requirement to change residences or be forced to sit out 30 days or longer." What scenarios will result a sit out of more than 30 days other than illegally recruiting?
: : : : Following a coach or a second transfer without a valid change of address have more than 30 days of ineligibility.
: : : : :
: : Besides the scenarios above, remember that the SOP is not 30 days. It's actually about 6 weeks. The dates are established each year for each season (fall/winter/spring).
: : For example, the fall SOP typically ends the first week of October. Based on fall season officially starting around Aug 20-ish it's about 6 weeks.
: : Winter usually is first week of January, which is again about 6 weeks.
: : Basically, you miss the entire pre-season but should be eligible for league and playoffs.
: :Most transfers have always been sports transfers. That isn't the big issue. The issue that needs to be addressed is illegal recruiting and contact as well as the "academic" scholarships given by private schools especially when the kid with the "academic" scholarship needs three tutors just to maintain a 2.2 GPA. That is what needs to be addressed.
:Read the article again, illegal recruiting is still in place. Also, HS aid is on need basis. Not athletic or academic scholarship. Get your facts straight.
