St. Lucy's is seeking an assistant coach for the Varsity basketball team for this coming season and beyond. This is a paid summer and season job.
1. Assists the Head Basketball coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
2.Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head Basketball coach.
3.Assesses player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head Basketball coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
4.Assists with determining game strategy.
5.Assists the head Basketball coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
6.Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
7.Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
9.Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach.
10.Assists the head Basketball coach with submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season.
11.Participates in special activities to include banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
12.Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
13.Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and/or at least six months related experience. Prior successful experience working in a school setting or coaching student athletes strongly preferred. Experience participating in student athletics desirable.
Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to
building a positive team spirit. Demonstrated ability to successfully coach, lead
and/or motivate adolescent students.
Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in
English. Ability to effectively present information and respond effectively to
questions in one-on-one, small group situations to students and other school staff. Ability to verbally respond to common inquiries from students. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,operating instructions, procedure manuals and regulations. Ability to write general reports and correspondence.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in varying forms. Ability to problem solve and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use, e-mail, internet software and word processing software. Ability to type accurately and
Other Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of child growth and development. Demonstrated understanding or rules and regulations governing the game as well as techniques and tools to improve outcomes. Demonstrated ability to participate in physically demanding athletic activities. Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in a dynamic environment.
