: : : The All Southern Section 2nd Team recognized by SCIBCA is now listed on the SCIBCA website - scibca.org
: : I just looked at Division 2AA. What a joke. You talk about Trinity homers. How does JSerra have 3 players on the All-CIF team? They barely made the play-offs. Granted they made it to the Semis, but how do they have more All-CIF players than the team that beat them? JSerra coach should be embarrassed for being such a homer. Coach do us all a favor step down as the coordinator.
: Okay, Rowland parent, who should have been named to the All-CIF team for Division 2AA. Things look faor to me. I am sorry your daughter wasn't named to the team. Maybe you should talk to the Rowland coach and tell him to schedule tougher opponents. Then maybe, just maybe Rowland would have been given a state playoffs berth. Maybe, just maybe if Rowland played better competition some of the other coaches in your division might have named another Rowland player to the team. I like how you think it is the JSerra coach when were are something like 50 coaches that could have voted for the team. Grow up!!!!
I love how people say things like "play a tougher schedule".
Coaches can enter teams into all types of preseason tournaments, but ultimately they have no idea which teams are entered, or how good those teams will be from year-to-year.
So that part of scheduling is a complete dice roll.
Basketball teams don't just play one-off non league games like Football does.
It's not like the AD can call up Mater Dei when they notice their SOS is low and say "hey there Monarchs! let's get a game going sometime."
In addition no AD has any control over what teams are in their respective league, or how well they do each season.
That's why teams in the same league play in different Playoff Divisions.
To balance the lopsidedness of Leagues with dominant teams.
So the fact that Rowland only lost 2 games all season, one to the eventual CIF champs and State finalist Los Osos by two points, and the other in the semifinals to a pretty talented Camarillo team, says a lot about that program.
Looking at MaxPreps their SOS may be low, but sometimes you've got to read between the lines and look at each game individually.
They beat Walnut twice, which is not an easy task.
Beat Covina twice which is not a an easy task.
Hell... Covina's Shooting Guard set a National record for most 3's in a season.
It also looks like they were in the CIF Semifinals two years straight.
I'm looking at the past few seasons and there are some very quality wins on there against teams like Thousand Oaks, Dos Pueblos, Colony, etc, and the bigger name teams like Agoura, Sonoroa, and Los Osos which they lost to, they didn't lose to them by much.
So to just play the "weak schedule" card doesn't quite fit the bill here.
And for the record, my daughter made All CIF...for several years in a row now.
So I'm not one of these angry parents...Not at all.
I just think it's pretty unfair the way people dismiss smaller public schools as not having legitimate programs because they "don't play anybody".
We thought that about Rowland too and went home with a different perspective when they ran our girls sideways for 4 quarters.
As for JSerra's CIF selections, well it is what it is.
Trinity League has always gotten a lil extra love, but looking at these All CIF team lists I would say that all of the playoff teams are fairly represented, and congratulations to all of the girls.
