: : : : : : All CIF generally seems to be awarded to someone who puts up statistics, regardless of the level of competition. Besides the Open, there are many players who really didn't achieve much except to post gaudy statistics that didn't really translate to post-season success.
: : : : : : This isn't to imply that there aren't deserving All-CIF performers. Just to point out that CIF isn't able to truthfully evaluate all the players given the number of divisions and players and they have to go by some kind of measuring stick. This means PPG, RPG, etc.
: : : : : The only really good players that deserve recognition are on Open Teams and 1AA. Most of the rest can't play with these type of girls.
: : : : There are a lot of girls that are very good and can play with the best of them. Just because they decide to stay with their Home School and friends doesn't take away from their play.
: : : ::: All CIF is selected based on the performance in the playoffs. Because of this, the players are usually from teams that made a decent playoff run and have more than 1 or 2 games to select from.
: : If that is true, that is dumb. Call it something else then.
: : All-CIF is supposed to recognize the season of work.
: : So you could average a triple-double, but turn an ankle at beginning of first playoff game and get no recognition?
: : That's just dumb. But I guess I wouldn't put it by them.
: I don't think it's true that it's based on playoff performance. Our team is in 1AA. If you look at the 1AA list, there is a player who's team had a bye, beat one bad team, and then lost. And as a player, she performed very poorly and was outplayed both games. This isn't to say she's a bad player, but I scouted both games and she was not good but still received all-CIF.
::: I should have clarified myself more. CIF is not entirely based on the playoffs, but it is heavily weighted to the playoffs. Almost like the "what have you done for me lately" scenario. Since there are only a handful of coaches that vote and most have not seen a lot of the regular season, they look for kids that are on teams that have a playoff run and look at those stats. If a kids plays well in the finals, they have a good shot.
