: : After reading a number of post with numerous complaints, i have to agree with many of them regarding division placements. This was a fairly large fail from my standpoint. If the intention was to make the divisions equitable it was a huge failure. Here are my observations.
: : #1. Private schools that have many club players and scholarship recruited athletes on their rosters were allowed to play in divisions with teams that have rosters from local feeder schools. How is that equitable.(like trinity league schools) #2. Schools that have huge enrollments and decades of good basketball history were placed in very low division ( Thousand Oaks in division III???). #3. Schools that have local rosters ( like Ventura) are forced to play in open division against teams that can recruit players and give them financial aid to attend their institutions. ( nothing wrong with that. however it gives those schools a huge advantage) The index they use is terrible. Flaws are inherent in CIF philosophy. For example, graduation, JV record is not taken into consideration. Simple answer to this problem. Announce the divisions near the end of season. Let the high powered private schools play each other. They should not play publics just because they are not as good at recruiting players as other privates. ( tough stance) The big problem according to this site is that really good teams have to watch other teams experience the joy of winning a championship when they know that they are superior. I totally get that frustration. I really believe in regional championships. Not many agree with me on that. But i would like to see regional Championships first, then let the regions play against each other.I think that many would enjoy seeing teams from their region compete against teams that are similar to them. Then they would have to compete against teams that may not be similar. Divide the regions into divisions and then fight it out in playoffs. Just 4 divisions based on competitiveness and size...make divisions near end of season.. base it on wins vs quality opponents, not losses against quality opponents ( How DUMB is that)... Get on it SCIBCA. ( i am a member) What do you think???
: Facts are a mediocre team like Los Osos gets assigned to Division 3, then gets a major college transfer, then wipes out all the weak teams in Division 3. That's not fair.
: Osos is on the rise. The only good teams in the baseline league now will be Osos and Etiwanda.
