: : : Wow, I haven't seen rosary this good in a long time...for them to win CIF and go this far in state. Excited to see how it plays out saturday
: : Yep, last time my now 32 year old daughter was a freshman
: LOL!!! Is Rosary really this good or is Rosary just the benefactor from CIF equality? Let me ask you this, who has Rosary beaten this year that would show that they are truly a good team? Rosary beat Ventura that was a good win for them and it showed that Rosary was a top 50 team. But, sometimes a team can get lucky and catch a good team on an off night like Rosary did with Ventura.
: If Rosary was good then why couldn't beat Mater Dei or Orange Lutheran? Rosary is a third place team from a league and you think that makes them good? On top of that, Rosary lost to Brea Olinda. Already, that relegates Rosary to barely being a top 10 team in Orange County.
: Rosary benefited from being in their soft, uncompetitive division that CIF put Rosary in. There was not a single elite or upper echelon team in their division so yeah it makes Rosary look better than what they are. Rosary won a championship because they were the best team among nobodys. That's what CIF wanted with this equality. CIF takes the top 44 teams in the Southern Section and puts them in Division 1AA. Now all of the other division look average and watered down. But dare not talk about it that way because then everyone gets upset.
: If Rosary was truly good, they should have beaten Orange Lutheran, finished 2nd in the Trinity League. If Rosary was truly so good, then why wasn't Rosary in the Open Division? CIF equality makes average teams look like good teams because those teams are playing teams that are like them. Oh, but that's was the plan for equality. Well, it makes for horrible basketball. Its like if the NBA decided to take the teams that did not make the playoffs and then let them play for a championship. Hooray!!! The Los Angeles Lakers are champions again. That's what it is like with CIF equality.
: As for State, it is the same thing. Rosary is in the top division considered for Division 3 state. Just look at the bracket, not a single good team at all. An average team could compete in Division 3 for state. Just look at the upsets, incomplete teams playing soft, horrible basketball. That's why CIF decided not to have the regional finals at a big venue. Just the Open Division and the Division 1 teams get to play on the big stage because the elite teams deserve it. Division 2 should have been at the Pyramid too but you have to draw the line somewhere in the name of equality.
: So keep patting yourselves on the back. Just keep thinking that Rosary is a good team. That's what equality does blind everyone into thinking their team is good.
: Rosary is good generally, and strong in its own weight class. 450 students put in with big private schools because 1. Servite is large and plays football, and 2. OC public schools don't want to compete with ANY Catholic school in league. Also, MD and to some extent OL are big, coed schools that emphasize sports at the expense of academics (seen that BB palace MD bought instead of classrooms?). Rosary doesn't. Finally, your attitude seems to be that sports are an end in themselves, and that only elite teams and players are worthy. Mine is that sports are activities from which kids can learn valuable lessons about teamwork, preparation, dedication, and sometimes how to take a loss, then get up and try again. Prepares them for life beyond the court.
