: : : : : : : : : : : : : : what are your predictions on who is going to get first place in each division?

: : : : : : : : : : : : : These lines are posted at Caesars Palace in Vegas

: : : : : : : : : : : : : Open
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Poly -12 vs HW

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 1AA
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Valencia -3.5 vs Canyon

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 1A
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Bishop Montgomery -3 vs Huntington Beach

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 2AA
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Camarillo PK vs Rosary

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 2A
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Marlborough -3 vs Leuzinger

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 3AA
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Glendora -3.5 vs Thousand Oaks

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 3A
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Los Osos -14 vs Lancaster

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 4AA
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Knight-6 vs Beverly Hills

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 4A
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Village Christian -3 vs Valley Christian

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 5AA
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Heritage Christian -9 vs Crean Lutheran

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 5A
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Bell Jeff -5 vs Chadwick

: : : : : : : : : : : : : 6
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Rolling Hills Prep -6.5 vs Grace Brethren

: : : : : : : : : : : : : Was there a line or over-under on any of the games?

: : : : : : : : : : : If only one could actually bet on these games. that would be remarkable!

: : : : : : : : : : With the lines given I would

: : : : : : : : : : Open: Take Harvard Westlake and the points, they may not win, but it will be closer than that

: : : : : : : : : : 1AA: Canyon and the points

: : : : : : : : : : 1A: Bishop Montgomery to cover

: : : : : : : : : : 2AA: Rosary

: : : : : : : : : : 2A: Leuzinger and the points

: : : : : : : : : : 3AA: Glendora will cover

: : : : : : : : : : 3A: Lancaster and the points

: : : : : : : : : : 4AA: Village Christian will cover

: : : : : : : : : : 4A: Beverly Hills and the points

: : : : : : : : : : 5AA: Heritage Christian will win, but I'd take the points and Crean Lutheran

: : : : : : : : : : 5A: maybe my toughest decision as I am picking Bell-Jeff to win but think it will be right around 5 points. Bell-Jeff to cover.

: : : : : : : : : : 6: Rolling Hills Prep will cover

: : : : : : : : : I like both coaches of the Double Digit Dogs so I will take those 2 (HW +12 and Lancaster +14)... I think Glendora takes care of business as well.

: : : : : : : : If Village Christian and Los Osos were both to win, I wonder who gets the higher seed in state? Village is higher seeded by MaxPreps, seems to have more high quality wins, and beat common opponents like Viewpoint by more, but Los Osos is 3A. Of course, they both need to win to worry about it and that is never a sure thing.

: : : : : : : CIF has it pre slotted...
: : : : : : : 3A -Champ = #1
: : : : : : : 3A- 2nd Pl. = #2
: : : : : : : 4AA-Champ #3
: : : : : : : 4AA-2nd Pl = #4
: : : : : : : 4A-Champ = #5
: : : : : : : 4A- 2nd Pl = #6
: : : : : : : Usually wil cards #7/#8
: : : : : : : Other sections #9-#16

: : : : : : : I believe in this division SS went 8-0 last year in round 1.
: : : : : : : So even if you think LO and VC are best 2 teams they would be ranked 1 and 3 and not meet until SS Finals...I personally think both wild card teams are better than the 4A finalists so 4AA is actually given a break as compared to 3A.

: : : : : : This is not the state finals bracket from last year where Antelope Valley and St. Anthony were representing the Southern Section in State Division 4. I would hope they do not slot the seeds as they did last year because I highly doubt the Southern Section will be rolling through the lower State Divisions like they did back then. Perhaps they may have the Regional winners but last year the Southern Section went 39-1 in the 1st round of the state tournament. This year the section will lose more games in the first round than that in Division 4 alone.

: : : : : : And yes you are correct the two Wild Card teams should be seeded higher than the 4A finalist, but that may require time and work which some people are not real excited about.

: : : : : too bad that they pre slot instead of actually rank the teams. Seems odd. Especially in a year like this when the divisions are so helter shelter.

: : : : Agreed that the division is not as strong as last year. I was at the AV-St. Anthony game and it was s great HS girls game. Obviously neither team was a Division 4 team, but that's the way the bracket fell last year. I would say this year is more of a true D4 type of bracket and several teams have opportunities to win. Everyone is high on VC and they are a solid team, but please tell me who they have beaten beyond Valley Christian and Flintridge Prep? FP is out and the VC's have their rematch this weekend. I think 4-5 teams could win this state bracket with the 3A champ as the favorite since they will be at home throughout as long as they keep winning.

: : : Looking at VC schedule, they beat Agoura and Oaks Christian, both are way better wins than Valley Christian and Flintridge Prep. They beat Lasalle (which knocked Flintridge Prep out of 3A) by double digits. Also beat Leuzinger who is playing for 2A championship by double digits. And beat Viewpoint (who played Los Osos close) by 27.

: : : They lost their big girl though, so are not the same team as the start of the season. I would agree that bracket is pretty open.

: : Oaks, Agoura and Leuzinger are good wins... VC is the highest ranked team in D4 and does deserve credit. I have not seen them since the unfortunate loss of their Big but they have kept rolling...

: : Unless they change the system, they will enter the state playoffs as the #3 or #4 seed. It simply means they will be on the road for semis and finals if the #1 and #2 hold serve.

: : It sounds like they are battle tested for this division so I like their chances... I think Los Osos and Lancaster will have their hands full in the state quarterfinals (much like AV last year, who nearly lost to ND Academy in the state quarters 39-37)... Pasadena and Viewpoint are capable of winning on the road. The nice thing is no games are gimmes so we will see how it plays out.

: So it did play out in that pre-set way. Seems a shame that strength of schedule and quality wins aren't the most important thing when it comes to seeding. Village certainly has the best wins out of 3a/4AA/4A. Of course, don't now if Village can complain when somehow, Leuzinger wound up ranked lower than Marlborough in D3, which is really odd since they slaughtered them in CIF.

Yes, many teams who beat other teams were ranked lower in state in all divisions.. not sure what was going on in the seeding room...

As for VC, I probably would give them the #2 seed and Lancaster the #3 -- not sure how good Rancho Bernardo is at #4 --- It didn't go exactly as last year when SS was #1-#8 ... I like the fact that they mixed it up....

In D4, I see the 1-4 seeds holding serve at home through the semis, but that is why you play the games...
