: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Definitely with VHS on this one. They have the best player in all of Santa Clarita in Konrad. She and the rest of her posse are destined to win this CIF. It's going to be a battle but Konrad tilts the scale for Vikings to win this. Great way to end one's HAS career with a CIF win against your rival. Can't hardly wait, that arena will be packed with folks from SCV!!!

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Shoot, I think I will drive from my part of town to see this one. I think it will be electric in the house for this one. I give an edge edge to Canyon though. I think they create a lot of match up problems for Valencia with their Bigs. Konrad can't handle the Bigs that Canyon can throw at them. It looks like to me that Valencia and Canyon guards will go at since they are pretty much at the same leve, but the Bigs will be the difference in this game. I have Canyon by 6-10 points

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : I was correct about the Valencia/Oaks game. I actually thought that St. Anthony would beat Canyon by around 10 points, but the Canyon guards kept their composure and made shots. When I watch St. Anthony against CV, I forgot that the CV guards were able to get to the basket, but missed shots. The Canyon guards made their shots and handled the pressure well. Congrats to them. I think that Canyon is going to give Valencia fits in the championship game...and Canyon did win the last matchup. I think it is the best final of the CIF championship games.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : ::: I believe Canyon holds the edge in this one. Valencia doesn't matchup well with the Canyon front line and Canyon can throw multiple girls at Konrad to frustrate her. Canyons 4 has given Konrad problems for 2 years. The difference here will be the Canyon guards. Canyons PG can get by anyone Valencia can put on her. When she gets open on the drive others need to help. This frees up the Canyon shooters for wide open looks. The wild card is Valencias ability to shoot. If they have one of those great shooting games, there is nothing Canyon, or anyone else, can do.
: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Should be exciting either way. I have Canyon by a hair.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : So what? The best teams are in the Open.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : Sounds like someone is little sour on here.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : : There's a lot of that going around,lol

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : Back to the topic, "Canyons PG can get by anyone Valencia can put on her." Am not sure about that statement. Canyon guards have limited handle specially with their weak hand and they are not athletic nor fast. Just starting the fact. That Valencia starting jr guard plays smart. And a good defender, I didn't say excellent but good and smart enough to handle that undersize Canyon guard.

: : : : : : : : : : : : : : These two teams have played each other three times already this year. All this non-sense talk that's going back and forth about players that can and can't do that is a bunch of bologna. These two teams know each other very very well, and I'm sure they know what they're capable of.

: : : : : : : : : : : : ::: I think you are talking about Canyons backup PG. Canyons starter is bigger, taller, and faster than the Jr PG you are referring to.
: : : : : : : : : : : : I agree with the above poster that these two teams know each other very well and it will be interesting to see what tricks these coaches have up their sleeve.

: : : : : : : : : : : :SCV bragging rights for many years to come. They might meet again in State early round but the chance of them against each other for CIF title in a venue like Honda Center? It's going to be a long, long, time. This is not your ordinary annual league title games that they pretty much play year after year. This is their own big dance. Am definitely going to be there. It's going to come down to who wants it the most!!!!

: : : : : : : : : : >>>> It could go either way, BUT if Canyon keeps their big inside the entire time, has someone lock up Konrad and watches any other player from driving to the basket they could pull it off. It will be a very good game.

: : : : : : : : : It won't come down to which player does this or that. It will come down to which team adjusts best to playing on a bigger court with a huge expanse of space all around that is nowhere near like playing in a small cramped high school gym on a small floor. If both teams want to pressure the ball there is more floor to cover. If a team sits in a zone its the same thing, more gaps to fill and more space to cover. It won't come down to a player but instead it will come down to stamina, conditioning and who can once again make those adjustments.

: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : This is one of the best thought out posts I have seen a while.

: : : : : : : : I would argue when they are playing well, Valencia is better 1-6. After that, there is a drop off.

: : : : : : : : Along with your conditioning and stamina point, it is incumbent on the coaches to manage the player's minutes more than usual.

: : : : : : : : This is especially true of the Valencia coach, who tends to wear out his players, especially Konrad. She plays so hard and does so much for them, he really needs to keep her as fresh as possible.

: : : : : : : It is the CIF Championship game. You need to ride your best players. If they don't come out they don't come out. Basically, Konrad will only come out if she is in foul trouble or coughing up a lung.

: : : : : :
: : : : : : While that sounds good, it is not necessarily practical.

: : : : : : As mentioned above, these are longer and wider courts. That adds up depending on how you play - presses, defenses, etc.

: : : : : : I'm not saying sit her for long stretches, I'm just saying get her a breather now and then. Their coach doesn't give her much rest at all, and every game she takes a pounding while still going 100% every single play. And even more so against Canyon, where their strategy is rightly to make the game overly physical for her.

: : : : : : As a coach, I need her strong in the fourth quarter as the game is probably close. I can find a minute here and there. I'm a big fan of subbing at the end of quarters, especially if there is a free throw situation, where I can get my stars a "free minute".

: : : : : : You would be surprised how much that helps keep people fresh at end of game, especially ones that are counted on to do everything all the time.

: : : : : :She can plan that full game and do lapse and push ups in between breaks and timeouts. Your CC is in big trouble!

: : : : :::Slow down. You don't want to pump her up that much. You never know how the game will go (either way) and to add... why so much hype about Konrad? She may be the most athletic aggressive in SC, but take her to play against LB that will be a entirely different ball game. Why is everyone acting as if she is the ONLY player going against Canyon. Is this game 5 against just her as 1? Stop with the pumping up just one player. You might as well tell the other 4 players not to bother showing up. Give all of those girls some pumping up. Pitiful!

: : :
: : : I have seen Valencia play several times over the last couple of years.

: : : They are the ultimate team. They pass to the open man every time. In fact, I would argue they sometimes overpass trying to be good teammates. The other players are on the team (that play) are all solid to good. Really like the PG - plays under control, pass first, rarely makes mistakes. Can defend. SG Honaker can flat out shoot. Leave her open at your own peril. Their small forward Ane is also very solid - does a lot of things to help you win - defend, rebound, drive and kick, knocks down jumpers. Jordan is a undersized PF that consistently works hard on the boards and defense against taller and bigger players. Leave her open and she will hit the 3-ball. 6-foot big off the bench is a frosh, but has really improved. Gives them some actual size, especially if she is paired with Konrad.

: : : Yes the one poster is being stupid with their "she can do laps and push ups during timeouts" comment. But Konrad is really good and in the end, she has to have a big game for them to win.

: : : For those going, you should be seeing a good game.

: : : Good luck to both teams!

: : God you parents need to get a life and stop living through your kids. If Valencia and Canyon were so good then why didn't they both make the Open Division? What really scares me, is how you know the kids names and the way you talk about them sounds like you are obsessed. Creepy!!

: :::
: ::: POS, your responses sometimes are very insightful and other times questionable. I don't think anyone commenting here are saying these two teams are "so good" and should be Open teams. We are all simply talking about the matchup that the CIF has provided us. Whether its parents, SCV residents with kids going to one of these schools, or just fans of the team and league, we are just commenting about a game that has us all excited. If you are a fan of girls basketball, then how can excitement about this game be a bad thing? I love talk or chatter about any level or league, or team. it promotes the sport i am invested in ( i have 3 daughters). I had a daughter that played at a lower level school and when she made it to a CIF title game, she knew she wasn't as good as Mater Dei but she didn't care. She certainly doesn't care now, years later as she remembers that season.
: For these kids to be playing in the Honda Center with all this attention locally, against their "hated" rival? What a great experience. How many of us can say they were apart of something like that? This week there has been more attention paid to this game than the HW/LBP game. Does that mean these teams are better than them? No, but guess what? The game might be the better, more entertaining game. You never know.

>>>>I have to agree with some of what POS says. Some of these parents really need to relax and stop living through their girls... pumping them up so much. Talk about working on their self esteem...If you missed your bball dreams as a kid try signing up for an adult league....Your energy should be on grades just as much. They act as is their heading straight to the WNBA. The main parents that you always hear about is the Vikings. Relax Parents no need to keep the fire going. Good luck to both teams!
