: : : : : : : : : : : : : : Who are the best players to watch this week in the championship games?
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Clark and Jones from LBP, one of the Harvard Westlake twins (never remember which is which), Konrad from Valencia, Gipson and Williams from Palisades.
: : : : : : : : : : : : >>>>>Gipson and Williams from Palisades / Clark and Jones from LBP by far. These girls can out play the rest of the girls mentioned.
: : : : : : : : Cal Storm
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : :Got to give props to Marlborough's starting FRESHMAN trio in De Jesus, Montgomery and Yoshitake.
: : : : : : : : : : : Addition of these 3 girls brought last year's 2-20 Mustangs to 20-7 record and a trip to CIF Div 2A finals. Taking down #1 seed Righetti at their home last Saturday. These girls are amazing, my daughter plays club with them.
: : : : : : : : : : Marlborough is going to be really really good next year. They have a transfer that was hurt all year, only one senior, and a bunch of freshman coming in next year. The foundation has been set for a very long time!
: : : : : : : : Looking at their MaxPreps roster they don't appear to have any tall girls. Are any of the in coming freshman 5'10" or taller???
: : : : : : Don't know, but this year's freshman class came from Cal Storm (at least two did). There is a tie from Cal Storm to Marlborough. Marlborough coach is a really good coach. Good passing team, very unselfish. Transfer (who was hurt) came from Palisades and is also an excellent player.
: : : : : Marlborough is one of the big four, Brentwood, Harvard-Westlake and Pasadena Poly in terms of academic prestige. You can't just walk a player through the admissions office. They have to be accepted first and that's no small feat. Cal Storm is also the home of Quintero who was fired for coaching improprieties but he still knows the value of the school. If the Palisades student transferred in, she has to be an outstanding student first, basketball player second.
: : : : You would be surprised what type of athletes they let in to Marlborough
: : : That's a heavy allegation that partially got Barbara Wagner fired. Of course, that teacher scandal didn't help much, either.
: : : Marlborough is academically proven. They ranked 6th in the country among HS with highest standardized test scores. You just can wing that one. Graduates are also accepted to very selective colleges year after year. So yes, they have academic requirements for incoming students just like any other prep schools.
: You have to be able to handle academics at Marlborough. However, athletes get preferences. It is close to impossible for a regular student to get in to Marlborough in 9th grade or transfer in(they tell girls that only about 10 to 15 per class will be accepted. Note above that someone said they have a bunch of freshman are coming in, but acceptance letters have not yet been sent out (get sent out on March 10).
: We should all be honest; some excellent schools recruit players in many sports and lessen the entrance requirements for athletes. They can offer some scholarship and some financial aid, but most families still have to pay something. The good thing is that girls who might not have a chance to get in these schools are able to attend and reap the benefits (if the student applies themselves academically).
: Most importantly, students and parents (in combination with teachers) are what determines the quality of education a child receives. Many schools place kids into high ranking schools if the student applies themselves and focuses on education.
: I think the in coming frosh are currently 8th graders in Marlborough. But they are looking for bigs. Know anyone?
