: : : : : : : : : : : Semi Final Preview
: : : : : : : : : : : Valencia - Oaks
: : : : : : : : : : : Canyon - St Anthony
: : : : : : : : : : : I would love to hear everyones scouting report. I have Valencia in a rout over Oaks and Canyon in a close one over St Anthony. I don't know a lot about the teams so it would interesting to hear some of your breakdowns of both games. I am basing my picks off what I saw on Maxpreps, thats all.
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : On paper, Valencia should win easily.
: : : : : : : : : : But I keep counting Oaks out and they keep making me look bad.
: : : : : : : : : : Oaks has Boyer, who can theoretically counter-balance Konrad for Valencia. But Boyer tweaked her ankle last week and may not be able to keep up with the endless energy Konrad has.
: : : : : : : : : : Valencia has the experience edge, especially with their guards.
: : : : : : : : : : Oaks has the bigs, and Newman won 2 championships with Palisades so the stage will not intimidate her.
: : : : : : : : : : Oaks has a big coaching edge.
: : : : : : : : : : However, I believe that with Konrad playing well and the overall balance Valencia has, they should prevail in a close game.
: : : : : : : : : : I like all 4 teams left. All of them are still alive because they're pretty good. After Saturday their will be two winners and two losers. I think Valencia edges out Oaks by a hair, as well as Canyon over St. Anthony. Was checking Maxpreps earlier and noticed that Valencia and Canyon have played each other a few times due to being in the same league, and St. Anthony and Canyon have played each other. The only team from the four that hasn't played the others is Oaks Christian. Canyon and have beaten each other and St. Anthony lost to Canyon earlier in the year. But these are playoffs, and anything can happen there. My opinion: Valencia and Canyon win.
: : : : : : : : SA had one major "big" out due to injury so think that game will be close...
: : : : : : : ::: The new big for St Anthony will make the matchup with Canyons bigs intriguing, but the difference will come with the guards for both teams. St Anthony guards are a little undisciplined and can let games get away from them. Canyons guards are hot and cold. If Canyons guards play like they did against Valencia and the second half of Vista Murrieta, then Canyon wins hands down. If they play like they did against Sonora, then it'll be a close game. I still like Canyon.
: : : : : : I agree with above poster...SA main guards are a freshman and two sophs...very young and talented but prone to some mistakes...
: : : : : Konrad does a bit of everything, and whatever the team needs for them to win. If Valencia gets some production from the other spots, they should win easily like they did against Los Al. Game was close for a bit, then turned into a rout when they got some production from Jordan and hustled for all loose balls.
: : : : ::: The bigs for both teams cancelled each other out. Although Canyons fortune to bring 2 other bigs off the bench provided a distinct advantage as fouls added up for both teams. Canyon starting power forward fouled out in the 3rd quarter but the sub off the bench was solid the rest of the way. The difference was at the guard position and at the free throw line. Canyon guards played fairly well and clearly outplayed the SA guards.
: : : : Very excited to see the rematch with league rival Valencia. I have Canyon by 8-10.
: : :
: : : : Definitely with VHS on this one. They have the best player in all of Santa Clarita in Konrad. She and the rest of her posse are destined to win this CIF. It's going to be a battle but Konrad tilts the scale for Vikings to win this. Great way to end one's HAS career with a CIF win against your rival. Can't hardly wait, that arena will be packed with folks from SCV!!!
: : : Shoot, I think I will drive from my part of town to see this one. I think it will be electric in the house for this one. I give an edge edge to Canyon though. I think they create a lot of match up problems for Valencia with their Bigs. Konrad can't handle the Bigs that Canyon can throw at them. It looks like to me that Valencia and Canyon guards will go at since they are pretty much at the same leve, but the Bigs will be the difference in this game. I have Canyon by 6-10 points
: I was correct about the Valencia/Oaks game. I actually thought that St. Anthony would beat Canyon by around 10 points, but the Canyon guards kept their composure and made shots. When I watch St. Anthony against CV, I forgot that the CV guards were able to get to the basket, but missed shots. The Canyon guards made their shots and handled the pressure well. Congrats to them. I think that Canyon is going to give Valencia fits in the championship game...and Canyon did win the last matchup. I think it is the best final of the CIF championship games.
::: I believe Canyon holds the edge in this one. Valencia doesn't matchup well with the Canyon front line and Canyon can throw multiple girls at Konrad to frustrate her. Canyons 4 has given Konrad problems for 2 years. The difference here will be the Canyon guards. Canyons PG can get by anyone Valencia can put on her. When she gets open on the drive others need to help. This frees up the Canyon shooters for wide open looks. The wild card is Valencias ability to shoot. If they have one of those great shooting games, there is nothing Canyon, or anyone else, can do.
Should be exciting either way. I have Canyon by a hair.
