: : : : 4a he did a great job knows how to coach turned program from below the bottom to the top great young Black coach
: : : Village hadnt won a league title for 20 years before last year. Two years ago, the team had 6 players. They have never won a CIF championship in school history. Valley is a much stronger program historically than Village. Not a knock against the Valley coach, but he has competition for Coach of the Year.
: : Village coaches have spent the last two years recruiting and stealing players from other schools. THat is how they have built their program.
: Saw Village play in a tourney earlier in the year and was impressed with the coaches and what they were doing.
: You are saying they are stealing players and recruiting.
: They have basically 6 good players. 2 are frosh that I had never seen before. Where did the other four come from?
: I believe the one big girl is an exchange student from Africa?
: I'm just curious, not looking to stir things up in any way.
Village hasn't recruited or poached at all. The girl from Africa is an exchange student... literally from Africa! However, she tore tendons in her foot after the second game in league and is done for her HS career. She is simply a student now. Every other kid in the program except one (not a starter) has been there since at least her Freshman year....and many of them have been at the school since 4th or 5th grade or even earlier.
The coaches at Village are as ethical as coaches come. Every time they have a big lead, they clear the bench and let everyone play. They could have two or three kids averaging 17 or more per game. Instead, their two leading scorers average 12 because they barely play 20 minutes a game. Go take a peek at their quarterly scores this year. Lasalle is a great example. Village up 22-4 after the first quarter. Coach cleared the bench and let an entire team of subs play the whole second quarter and much of the third. Only when Lasalle got to within sniffing range did he get the starters back in for a bit to get the lead to a comfortable range. Pattern happened again and again.
Don't want to stir things up either, but I don't know why anyone would lie and try to smear some of the genuine good people in high school sports.
