: : : : : I've got Pali by 20-25 over el co and fax over Granda in a close one. El co has a bunch of average players while Pali has two superstars, always go with the superstars. Pali also has some nice bench players that know their rolls. Granada coach will keep Fairfax game close, Alwsys does well with the least amount of talent. Pali/fax in the finals!
: : : :
: : : : Always disrespecting the Valley talent. I have seen all four of these teams play multiple times and they are all very good teams. And both El Camino and Granada Hills have players that would start at either Fairfax and Palisades.
: : : : My breakdown...
: : : : Palisades vs. El Camino - Palisades does have the two best players in the is game. But El Camino has 3, 4, and 5. Both teams love to press, but both teams are also very good at beating the press. So in the end, I don't think either team will actually end up pressing that much. So in the half court game, it's really down to how much ECR can contain Gipson and Williams. If they combine for 35-40, ECR has a chance. If they go for 45-50 it could be ugly. On the other side, ECR needs to make shots and exploit their rebounding edge. They also need to be patient and try to keep the score down - the lower the better. I see this either a close game or a blowout, not one of those 12-16 not over/not in danger type of games. Pick: Palisades
: : : : Fairfax vs Granada - interesting game. The discipline of Granada vs. not very structured Fairfax. Fairfax is tougher, and Granada cannot get intimidated or they will be run off the court. The lower the score the better for Granada too, and their style of play is very much set up to run clock and get good shots. They just need to make them. If you leave Fairfax open, they will drain shots, but they are shaky if they are contested. Pick: Fairfax in a close game
: : : : And while I am picking Palisades vs. Fairfax, the difference between all the teams is not so great that either of the favorites getting beat will not be "shocking".
: : : : Hopefully, they are both good, entertaining games.
: : : : Good luck to all the teams!
: : : Pali will press elco the entire game, for all 32 minutes. You're delusional if you think otherwise. Pali destroyed them the last two years by pressing. Elco would be foolish to press Pali., the last thing you want is to increase th speed of the game, the game will get ugly very quickly if that's the case. When was the last time a valley team won the open or the D1 when that was the highest level? Just asking
: : :: Narbonne pressed Pali AND pushed the pace? - and kept it up for way too long - and look what happened. 50 pt margin. Elco's only chance is to try to slow the game down, and not fall apart from Pali's press. If Gipson is held to less than 20 and Williams less than 15, they have a chance. But if their shots are dropping...it's going to be a repeat of last year. The last game most of the starters were in double digits, so it was balanced, a team effort.
: Again, I think Pali is going to win. But I have seen all four of these teams play multiple times. Pali is not the same team they were last year when they also had Gillet, Newman, Spanier, etc. Palisades dominated the boards in the championship game last year and I don't see that happening this year.
: I agree Elco shouldn't press much, I just said they like to. The sooner they stop it most likely the better. Also, the Pali press, while still good, is not the same as last year either. It was completely ineffective against Fairfax, and Fairfax does not have the ball handling Elco does. It would also help Elco if Gipson goes 1-11 from 3 like against Fairfax, but I don't see that happening. But you pointed out as I did their best chance is to hold Gipson/Williams to 35-ish, which is a tall order. But then you are making someone else step up that isn't use to doing it and then anything can happen.
: Taking Pali, but I don't think it will be a complete rout.
Rout is coming in the Pali game and fairfax by 6 over Granada. When was the last time a valley team got, not won, but got to the finals of the highest playoff division in the city? I have no idea.
