: In terms of preparing to play in college and getting Mid D-1exposure which is better.....being the number 8 or 9 player on a strong 17u EYBL team or being a focus player on a solid 17u travel team that plays in 4-5 big viewing tournaments? What else is there to consider? Coaches? Cost? Travel? Teammates? College connections?
If you are on a solid travel team and your daughter is the primary focus of the team and you play some of the better tournaments during the summer, then I would stay. Don't let these Nike, Adidas, UA teams sway you. If you know of a some colleges that your daughter is interested, do your own work and contact the coaches and their staff. Send them game films and highlights. Tell them what the tournament schedule is and see if they would be able to come watch her play. My daughter plays for a mid-level team, but I'm the one sending all of the game film out, working with my daughter in contacting the coaches. Provide the support and structure. It's really not that difficult. Attend the camps of those colleges she is interested in if they have them. It's great exposure and gives her a chance to see who some of her future teammates might be.
