: : : : What happened to the girls program?
: : : Like most others! Problem is Privates giving full ride Academic (really athletic) scholarships to high school players.
: : Demographics.
: I think kids getting "Scholarships" from private schools are a big misconception. Aint nobody getting full rides. They're getting financial aid, but aint nobody going for free unless they're an all-American and even at that point, they are paying hardly anything but still paying SOMETHING.
:Here is what is happening at Muir. The school is struggling with enrollment and test scores. The enrollment may be as low as 700. Students in Pasadena can choose any school in the district as freshmen and they are not going to Muir..at least the female athletes aren't. Although the boy's football and basketball programs are still finding a way to field competitive teams, the girls sports program is in shambles. If you are a girl going to school in Pasadena, you are not going to go to Muir. There are too many other options. The school just has nothing to offer a female athlete right now. When the previous head girls'coach quit 4 years ago, he was replaced by one inexperienced coach who was only 21 years old who, had a little talent, but no commitment. Then an ex graduate took over last year who had trouble fielding 6 players. This year, they are trying to rebuild. Another ex player is coaching and they are fielding a JV team in an attempt to get some girls playing and some experience..and some success. Hopefully, these girls all come back next year, and they are a year better, and new girls come out to increase their numbers. Within two years, hopefully, they have the numbers to fill two teams and their varsity team can be at least somewhat competitive. It will be very difficult.
