: : : : : : so it seems that this year cif has decided to not accept teams that do not have a 500 record and did not come in at least in 3rd place in their division. no petitioning will be allowed. so some divisions may only have between 20 and 24 teams that fill the criteria. extremely disappointing for the teams that schedule tough games in preparation for league and playoffs.

: : : : There are so many things wrong with CIF choosing to do this

: : : : 1) they will not be able to field full brackets in the majority of the divisions 3-6. Cost CIF and schools money by having so many BYES

: : : : 2) For teams that have been moved way down (Example a D2 team that is now in D5) that gets hammered in league but is in correct in playoffs to do some damage will never ever get a chance to get to playoffs, even though they are a high seed

: : : : 3) Not one team will schedule tough games from now on if you are in a decent league. You need to schedule cream puffs to make playoffs. This makes for decent teams to have a really tough time trying to get games

: : : : 4) Tournaments are going to be tough to field. Nobody wants to play 4 or 5 tough games. Teams are going to be looking fro weak tournaments

: : : : 5) Not only does it count against you record wise, but just scheduling tough teams and beating them cost you points. Again, meaning more teams will schedule cupcakes so they can drop divisions.

: : : : 6) Many highly seeded teams ARE NOT GOING TO GET IN

: : : : CIF needs to change this ASAP. Too many things wrong wrong with this flawed system. Football changed it, now basketball needs to follow

: : : Teams like St. Lucy's are now screwed, they already had a set up where they would never get a home game or an automatic bid to the playoffs by playing in the Baseline league.

: : : So essentially teams like this need to almost sweep their non conference games to make the play offs. On a 26 game season they can lose no more than three games in the preseason to make the playoffs. Under the idea that they aren't going to win any league games, they will have to try to schedule way below themselves.

: : : I looked, last year they were the only team in the state who participated in such a large division disparity between their league and themselves. They were div 4AA and every other team in their league was Div 1A or 1AA.

: : : CIF talks about competitive balance but then leagues don't play that out (of course the principals and ADs set the league and that is a whole other agenda, especially in the Mt Sac area due to the inordinate amount of power one district has due to sheer votes.)

: : : Since most of the league decisions are based upon the boys sports, I see looming title 9 issues with how lack of competitive alignments can reduce perceive opportunity for girls to play sports, and thus deemed violations. Girls and boys sports needed to be league separately. (already done in softball and baseball within CIF)

: : : They need to at least change it to having 10 wins to apply.

: : St Lucy teamed with Damien. Didn't they protest being in the catholic league and then won but got to be in the Baseline so they lost...

: Mt. SAC area sends Damien, St. Lucy’s to the Baseline League

They were sent to the Baseline league because they are attached to Damien and the AD's and Principals of the biggest district wanted to punish them for not going to the catholic league which would have had league games versus St. monica's and St. Bonaventure. They all wanted Damien out, when they were forced to take them back, the made it hard on them. St. Lucy's gets punished because of that.
