: The answer is simple........form the divisions right before league. That gives CIF all December to gather scores and evaluate where a team is. (I agree you are penalizing current teams for past success).

: Then they should include a formula that moves teams up if they have transfers. For example : each transfer moves you 1/2 a spot up in a division. You have (2) transfers - move up 1 division or something of that nature.

: I believe that the system is getting closer but still needs a lot of work. The Schools are members of CIF....they should be able to dictate what kind of formula should be adopted.

: Curious if there was ever a discussion to break away from CIF and form some competing athletic body to direct HS sports in California????

: : : : : : : What y'all thoughts on the teams in the open division watchlist?

: : : : : : Antelope Valley just made the list

: : : : : Mark Keppel is on the Open List, but aren't ranked anywhere in any division. Which division are they?? 1AA, 1A, 2AA or 2A???
: : : : : I know they just beat Fairmont Prep last Saturday.

: : : : Keppel is in Division 1AA

: : : Keppel is a good team but not an Open Team this year. No true senior leaders and their PG is out for the season with a knee injury. They will probably struggle in the 1AA division, but that's the price you pay for success in the prior years.

: : "but that's the price you pay for success in the prior years"

: : And there is the flaw in the system yet again.

: : Just because you were good the last 1, 2, 3 years doesn't mean you are at same level now.

: : Somehow, adjustments need to be made for graduation, transfers (in or out), etc.

: : Nothing you can do about injuries.

: : But the other stuff - not fair to make current team suffer for prior teams success when they all leave. Current players may not even have been on varsity.

: : This will come up in the more and more in the next year or two.

: : Not sure what the answer is, but it needs to be addressed.

Where do you want a team like Keppel placed?

they just beat the #1 team in Division 1A, sounds like 1AA is the correct placement

Are you saying just because a team can not easily win a CIF title in a division they are placed in the wrong division. With your reasoning we need 550 separate divisions so each team can be placed in the correct division
