: I like what you are trying to do here but you are using a coaches poll that is almost a month old. Wait a week and then try to do this again. My feelings is that MaxPreps is a horrible source to use for rankings because their algorithm is off base. Just look at Brea Olinda. They have played no one. NO ONE but because they played at NIKE TOC and West Coast Jamboree, two tournaments that are factored heavily into the algorithm that MaxPreps uses they get a higher ranking than most of the teams in the division. MaxPreps is good but it is flawed. Then you get to the coaches poll. The coaches are always trying to manipulate the vote. Its fun to see the voting results. For example, for Division 1AA none of the top teams in the division voted themselves in the top 16. So every coach that voted, voted themselves out of the top 16. Most of the Division 1AA coaches are hoping to drop out of the Open Division so they can win a championship in Division 1AA. So moving forward, most of the coaches votes in Division 1AA will be interesting to see what happens and one of the reasons CIF needs to step in and make sure that the votes are correct and fair. If not, then there will be teams that could get screwed and be in the Open Division while another top team could drop into Division 1AA and win a championship just like Ventura did last season. Both systems are flawed and not to be trusted. A mix of the two is tough...because one will always be incorrect or flawed. I would trust a committee over a computer and the coaches so hopefully CIF can see through the information and the B/S and get things right.

I wish the Freeman Rankings that were used about 3-4 years ago would be brought back. Their ratings and schedule strength numbers were much more accurate than MaxPreps. It was a shame that the system was discontinued.
