Murrieta Valley Wins 2016 Lady Nighthawk Classic Tournament.

Murrieta Valley’s Megan Ormiston Named Tournament Most Valuable Player
Valley soared past Rancho Verde in the second period of the 2016 Nighthawk Lady Classic Girls Basketball Tournament Championship game to beat the Mustangs 57-43 and bring back the Championship to Murrieta.

The Mustangs fell to 9-4 with the loss. Murrieta Valley is now 11-3 and off to re-establishing a proud Nighthawk Girls Basketball program created by Scott Richards under new head Coach Nicolas Pardue.

Led by junior Megan Ormiston the Nighthawks jumped out to a 11-8 lead in the first period and then proceeded to put the game away in the second. Murrieta Valley outscored Rancho Verde 21-7 and took a commanding 33-15 lead at the half. The Nighthawks cruised to a 57-43 victory and the Championship.

Ormiston was dominant on the boards for the Nighthawks as she hauled in 19 rebounds blocked 4 shots and scored 19 points. She was selected as the Most Valuable Player of this year’s tournament.

Freshman Parris Pettitt scored 13 points for Murrieta, senior De Brianna Hampton 12 and junior Ahley Miller 6 points. Freshman Allison Gibson added 5 points and senior Alyssa Kreutzer 2 points and 6 assists. Junior Jillian Jinkins grabbed 7 rebounds in the victory. Parris Pettitt was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Sophomore Drasoni Kyles led the Mustangs with 21 points. Junior Vanessa Vargas scored 11, sophomore Sarai Rivers 4 and senior Angel Munoz 3 points. Senior Taylor Nicholson and Skye Lattermore both scored 2 points.

Drasoni Kyles and Vanessa Vargas were selected to the All-Tournament Team for Rancho Verde.
