: : : : My daughter is in high school and her team isnít practicing at all. Apparently the AD instructed the coach to enter them in a Summer League and thatís it. Why would a team not be practicing at least a couple of times a week? Apparently itís what the boys team does and the AD sees no problem with it. Should I be concerned?

: : : Yes, be concerned. Summer is where players get better. Unless a majority of players are playing travel ball, not a good sign at all. If sheís serious about ball, transfer!

: : What the responder said is spot on. If the majority of the team is playing travel ball there is no need to double up. Let the kids play with them and then start up in the fall. Its all the kids whose HS teams are practicing and also practicing with their club where injuries occur from over use. The top programs rarely practice in the summer and most dont even play. Look at Windward, Sierra, Mater Dei. They know the kids are in good hands and will get after it in September to gear up for the season when their kids are fresh.

: Also, it is mandatory for every High School team to have a 30 day off period. This is 30 days where the team may not get together and practice. Your coach can choose the 30 consecutive days. Ideally in July when club is busy or in August so the kids get a REAL month off.

The dead period is 3 weeks not 30 days
