: Hey fellow coaches, this is a bit tricky, but my players will not shoot the d*** ball. They seem to be afraid of being a ball hog, yet it is ruining our offense. I am lucky if ANY player will shoot 4 shots a game. Is it at all possible for anyone to just give me a 'range". Example, forwards, 12 shots a game. Guards 10 shots etc.. I know there are a ton of variables, but just an idea...I have benched them etc..thanks in advance.
There are many variables to this question.
What kind of offense do you run? Set plays vs. motion?
Do you have a legitimate big?
Are you good shooters?
You get the point.
I find shot distribution isn't necessarily dictated by position but by scorer.
For example, your top scorer is probably taking 15 shots a game. Next scorer is typically 10-12 and so on.
Without a legit big, where you actually feed the ball to the post, your main scorer is probably a guard or small forward.
It might be a power forward or center who gets a lot of OR and put backs, but that doesn't really figure into this.
