: : : Crazy how parents get caught up in wins and losses in high school summer leagues!!!!!!

: : Agreed. I know my HS daughter’s coach plays every player including players that would most likely be on JV when season starts. And I know most high school coaches do the same.

:
: Every coach treats spring/summer/fall ball differently. And there is no right or wrong way to do so. But unless you know how each coach approaches it, it is silly to put too much stock in wins or losses.

: For example, some coaches play everyone the same amount of time regardless of who they are. Some coaches don't play their studs that much or at all, as they are busy with their travel teams getting ready for the viewing periods.

: Some coaches practice every day, some practice hardly at all.

: Some coaches vary their approach game to game. Maybe play a top team like more of a regular season game, but for a game against a weaker team, the top players may not even play.

: Basically, just go watch your kid play and enjoy it. Their playing days will be over before you know it. It's great to get a win over a "big name" team, and feel free to enjoy it. Just don't pop off about it. Because just remember, come November, everyone's record is 0-0.

Summer ball, like spring ball, is terrible low-level competition. Many coaches refuse to participate, others use it as a time to gauge the effectiveness of their younger or JV players. Be wary of any coach who insists your child must play spring or summer ball, especially if it means giving up better exposure opportunities in travel ball.
