: : I have been a coach for over 20 years and a head for over 10. Here is my situation. I'm not sure I'm getting the most out of watching film both alone or with my team. I know what I do and I know its effective but is it the best or most effective way to do it. I was never taught how to break down film just learned on my own. So I put the question out to any coaches.

: : If you have some methods that work please reply if you have heard another coach speak about the subject or if you have read a book please list. I may be doing the right things or I may not!

: : Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

: All ways create some effectiveness the way they are used. Teaching is the key. I know a Coach that makes all the game films available for his players on the internet. Another who gives them DVD's of each game. The more a player wants to learn the better. There's a lot more to learning basketball then watching film though, but it's a start.

:: I watch my game film in slow motion when I look at it for the first time. I will go back and watch plays and sequences in regular speed after my initial watch. For me, watching the game in slow motion allows me to see everything a bit more clearly. It takes a looong time to get through a game, but I think its worth it.
