: : : Its been a few weeks into the season, whats your take?
: : As I have mentioned before, due to Open Division, only the Top 8 needs to be listed. Anyway, here is my take as of today:
: : 1. Palisades - with Gipson and Williams, still the team to beat. Don't let early record fool you.
: : 2. El Camino - with their own duo of Hamilton and Jacks, they are catching up. Tough schedule so far and big game with Valencia looming before taking on Granada to open league play.
: : 3. Granada Hills - Love Mitchell's game, solid supporting cast. Don't beat themselves. Early season MaxPreps ranking is deceiving. Going up North for tourney after Xmas.
: : 4. Fairfax - wildcard team. Only have 6 players right now. Stud from Price plays starting in January, who knows who else they bring in? I would look for them to move up to 3 by playoff time (and that keeps ECR and Granada out of same side of bracket).
: : 5. Birmingham - couple of solid transfers and good coaching. Need to see them against some better competition. Maybe in Legacy tourney.
: : 6. Carson - has some raw talent and I like their coach. Looked decent in Redondo tourney, but they were in lower division.
: : 7. Legacy - Can't figure them out...stepped up their schedule big time. Beat a solid Norco, hung in against loaded Sierra Canyon, but then gets blown out by struggling Mater Dei and loses to up and down West.
: : 8. Westchester - Went to Texas for tourney, and is going to Wyoming too. That's some serious fundraising. Results are hard to pin down when they have played out of state teams. Lost by 12 to a down Oaks Christian team that would be on this list if they were in City.
: : Let's look again after Xmas tourneys, and again after Legacy tourney first week of January.
: : That should give us a good idea.
: : But with 6 top teams either in West Valley League or Western League, it's safe to say eventual champ will come out of one of those two.
: I have seen all the top three teams play in pre-season. I am not sure about all of the Palisades hype. Gipson and Williams are great but not much of a supporting cast. I think that either Elco or Granada could beat them. Maybe even the others. Haven't seen them yet.
Pali is not as good as the last couple of years due to all of the girls that have transferred out the past 3 years, they lost a lot of firepower. That being said, Gibson and Williams still should be enough to win a down city this year. Next year Pali's team will not be good, that's when the city title will be up for grabs. Pali dominates el Camino, I actually think Granada has a better chance of beating them this year . Watch out for fairfax, getting a good transfer.
