: : : : : : : : : : : Did anyone see the game ? i saw they posted score on maxpreps which was 65-46 windward won. did anyone got o the game ? any info on el camino ? are they as strong as last season ?
: : : : : : : : : : El Camino is a good city section team. Osborne was stellar tonight and she dominated the entire game.
: : : : : : : : : Windward was up 12-20 most of the game, wasn't very close.
: : : : : : : : Stayed to watch this game to see El Camino as we play them soon.
: : : : : : : : Windward jumped out to early lead, but ECR cut lead to around five and stayed in the 5-12 range rest of half.
: : : : : : : : Second half lead did get up to the 12-20 range, but El Camino cut it to 12 in fourth but then took some desperation shots and then gave up points on the other end.
: : : : : : : : It was one of those "your still in it but you aren't really games" for ECR.
: : : : : : : : Charisma Osborne is another level of player and only a sophomore. She didn't miss a shot until the fourth quarter and was all over the passing lanes.
: : : : : : : : Windward was clearly the better team, but I thought El Camino did well and is clearly a serious City title contender.
: : : : : : : : Let's see how they do vs. Chaminade on Friday.
: : : : : : : Pali has their number, no chance El Camino beats them this year. Pali destroyed them the last two years and have a lot of their players back.
: : : : : : I can't buy into high school teams "having their number" vs. another high school team. Too much turnover of players, coaches, etc. in general for that to be the case. If anything, that situation would happen with a league opponent not someone you may play once a year in a playoff situation.
: : : : : : I agree Pali is certainly the team to beat, but they actually lost a lot of players (though Gipson and Willams are back). I have seen El Camino several times over the summer, fall and last night vs. Windward and they looked pretty good.
: : : : : : They are playing Chaminade Friday and Harvard Westlake next week; let's see how those games go.
: : : : : You'll found out a lot about that team in the next week
: : : : :: I agree. In league play, perhaps.
: : : : Anyway, Pali returns seniors Pickett and Gipson, plus soph Williams - three of the five starters from last year's team which blew through the city last year, though admittedly they did lose elite scorer Gillette, post Newman and guard Spainer. Even so, don't really a ton of "drop off" - time will tell? They usually start off slow, but then come Jan. can be brutal with the press on defense and formidable on offense (scoring). Having watched most of the teams at the Pali tourney - seems ALL the teams are down from last year (SS as well as City). Much more parity this year, across the board. A couple of "upsets" early on. Oaks Christian is down. Fairmont Prep is ridiculously good, as is Chaminade...even with the loss of Odom, Higgins, it's all relative. Serra is also looking great. HW has those twins, who just dominate in on the inside! One of my favorite players is Osborne at Windward. She's asserting herself and is rising up as a true elite So. Cal. player. LBP is stellar, as always. This is gonna be a fun year.
: : : : :: I'm going out a limb and making my annual "way too early" predictions
: : : : Let's try these for 2016/2017:
: : : : SS: Windward over LBP in the open, led by Osborne who is going to really develop even more and come out spectacular.
: : : : City: Pali b-a-r-e-l-y over El Camino in their open
: : : : Both are going to be CLOSE games - no blowouts here.
: : : Wait hold up...Windward over Long Beach Poly??? WTH? Windward lost to Etiwanda in overtime. Etiwanda! If anything it shows you that Windward is not the team you think they are. How is Windward going to beat Poly? Please, pretty please enlighten me and others? How can Windward consisting of one guard and one slightly above average post player beat Poly with their two highly rated post players. I know one of those post players could miss the season if she would be declared academically ineligible but Poly and Coach Buggs will find a way to keep that player on the court and out of the classroom. But that is another topic. Back to this...Poly has depth in the guard spot too with Miller and company. What does Windward have to match Poly? Windward doesn't have the depth like Poly either. Hell, I am willing to bet that Windward doesn't win the Redondo Tournament. You are probably Osbourne's daddy or mommy trying to pump up Windward and your daughter when they have no chance at winning anything but a rubber tortilla.
: : : Windward over LBJ, lol. Put the pipe down homie, you are trippin.
: :: Not Osborne's dad. That line is soooo played out on this board, can't you come up with something new?
: :: This board was also DEAD wrong the last time I predicted Windward would win the SS Open over MATER DEI. Impossible. Idiot. Called me all kinda names. LBP had some of the strongest players that year too. Drummer, etc. Awesome guards - all that. But their Achilles heel has always been outside shooting. Force them to shoot three's - it's over. Mater Dei had KLS - Gatorade POY, McDonalds All-American, all that. The Velascos. They were blowing all the teams out.
: And then what happened? Windward demolished MD, and everybody else. At least some of you called the score right! Except you all got the teams mixed up.
: That year Windward was supposed to be beaten by LBP. No. ST MARY'S. Didn't happen. MD. Nope. Even Etiwanda at the end of the season, with their FIVE D1 seniors. All of 'em LOST toWindward that year.
: And the same thing's gonna happen this year too.
: Wait until the Open. Remember, I told ya so.
: BTW - that same year Windward lost one game in the pre-season to none other than ETIWANDA. History repeats itself. I called it then - and I'm callin' it again. I'm a longtime Windward fan. Osborne's Dad doesn't have to come on here to pump his daughter up. She's a special talent and great kid - so stop the hatin'. What's YOUR predictions?
: Go on the record. Cause in March I'm come on here and post my same message:
Hey Joe Frid....I mean Barney Fife. I told you that Windward wouldn't win the Redondo Tournament. Talking about past glory makes you sound like you are an old-timer. Let's talk about this year. Windward is not the team you think they are so take off your rose-colored Windward glasses. Osbourne got into foul trouble and then later got punked repeatedly when she went to the hole against the twins. I said it the other day and I will say it again. Windward has two players, Osbourne and Joseph and that is really it. Tonight Windward got out-worked, out-hustled and out-classed by Harvard-Westlake. If Harvard-Westlake can beat Windward with just 7 kids, really just 2 kids then Poly will have no trouble with Windward. But hey keep talking about how back 4 years ago Windward was the best team. In basketball and in sports four years ago is a lifetime ago. And, Windward was loaded with talent and had the best player in the State and possibly the nation. If Jordin Canada was still on Windward I would say Windward has a shot against Long Beach Poly but the last time I looked Osbourne is not Canada and Joseph is not Simon. Windward is good but they will be lucky to even win 2 games in the Open Division. Windward will struggle against physical teams like Etiwanda, Poly, Alemany, Harvard-Westlake and Sierra Canyon.
