: : : : AV 27 - GHC 25 at halftime

: : : GHC 54 - AV 52 final

: : Out of control parents on both sides. Total embarrassment.
: : Fun game though back and forth

: : I agree. Parents on both sides were unbelieveable, but I still could not believe how AV just imploded when the game was close. No passing, no ball movement, yelling at each other, shoving players. Their body language when they were up by 4 was like they were losing. Granada Hills did a great job of just hanging around until AV fell apart. AV has top 20 in the state talent, but they need to get their players to play as a team and develop some mental toughness...AV could be very good. On a side note...that game had the two worst referees I have ever seen. Not so much because of their calls, but of their absolute failure to handle the game and keep control of the action on the court. An AV player two handed shoved a GH player to the ground right in front of on of the refs who looked right at it and put his hands in the air....and the other official spent more time arguing back with the coaches when they asked questions than taking control of the action on the court. There could have been at least four technicals called on players ...easy calls.. that these refs missed and it only takes one to send the message. Horrible officiating.

Not sure if I buy state Top 20 in talent, but they usually do have good athletes. But whatever the talent level, the culture fostered there is terrible.

This was clearly obvious the last couple of years when girls not only yell at/cuss out other girls on both teams (opponent and their own), but also talk back to their own coach.

There were several very visible yelling matches the last couple of years between players and the AV coach - including his own daughter.

From an actual basketball perspective, the coach knows what he is doing and prepares his team well. But the culture of that squad would not be tolerated at most schools - and it shouldn't.

Part of high school sports is helping to prepare you for life - imagine getting into very visible shouting match with your boss. I don't know about you, but most people would be let go right away.
