: : : : : : Iíve been a big supporter of public school girls basketball for over 10 years and have to say that the talent in the city is the worst itís been in a very long time. We need to keep at our local public schools or the talent will continue to drop. No easy answers.
: : : : :
: : : : : Itís hard when the top public schools in the City (Granada, ECR, Birmingham) are down the street from Chaminade, Alemany, Harvard Westlake, and SC. You have the private school Assistant Coaches or parents of current players recruiting kids from local club teams to go to private schools. So, the public schools in the valley donít get top talented kids. I donít have much info about the LA schools but i do know that some of those LA schools have club coaches on their staffs. So, they will always be fine and they have the refs of their side when they play a valley team in the semis. So, they will be ok. City section basketball is sadly gonna be 100% awful in the next two years unless something changes but that wont happen. Kids would rather go to a private school not just for basketball but for education. Class sizes and quality of teachers are better at private schools and that sells to families.
: : : : : So, sorry to say...City Section basketball wont get better it will get worse as time goes on.
: : : : : Itís bad. I have not seen ONE pretty good player in the City and that is very sad. Unless any city team goes division 5, all of them will not only be eliminated in the first round of state, they will be blown out the water.
: : : You have not seen ONE?! Stop being dramatic. There are plenty of great city players, unfortunately, they are spread out, one here or there. ELCO, GH, Narbonne each have a player that is as good as or better than many players at these SS schools. The problem is, there is just one, maybe 2, and that does not make a team. Where as the SS power houses are 7 deep with their recruited players. So yes, it is hard for any city team, even the ones with decent players to compete. But the top 4 city teams can easily compete in Division 2 and even in Division 1. Stop hating so much on all the city teams. Last year GH beat chaminade and bishop mont in state playoffs. Instead of always complaining how terrible how about appreciate the few they are doing well with what they have. Of COURSE SS private schools are going to do well, they are recruiting the best, they better do well! But city works with what it has and these top city teams can compete!
: : The girl at ECR is very solid player, can play with the best of them.
: : The Jr. Post at Granada Hills runs the floor, finishes and can play D...
: : Poly Guard can flat out play....not a lot of help so shot selection is suspect but she can play.
: : Not A LOT of talent but still some very good skilled players.
: : Girls basketball in general is declining but it doesn't help when the "poachers" at private schools offer "incentive / financial aid" to entice them to play. So many of the so called TOP coaches are nothing more then "talent collectors" - Can't develop internally so you just "pluck" talent from opposing schools - Any school with No JV team but a LOADED Varsity is suspect......hmm wonder what schools those are???
: Don't hate that your daughter isn't good enough to play at the top level.
: Better academic, small class, top level instructors and well funded athletic program. Not a lot of parents can say no to that.
You know who post crap like that? Parents of kids on open division teams that arenít good enough start on any of the top city teams but actually got into the school because either families can afford to send their child there or the child actually got in because theyíre smart enough. The real players donít need to validate themselves by degrading others!
