: : : : ..in the end, King won the game.
: : : Congratulations King on beating Centennial twice. You have had a terrific season and you should be very proud. But other than Centennial, you didn't beat anyone noteworthy. Centennial isn't in the Open discussions, and neither is JW North who beat you earlier in the season. Other than those two school you didn't play any decent teams so at best you are an unknown quantity. Unknown quantities don't get picked for the Open. Good luck in CIF where you will find out very quickly how good your team really is.
: : : As for the last Open pick (let's assume #7 will go to Rosary because we all know it will) it should come down to one of these three: Troy, Poly or Serra. Looking at each team's losses, it appears Serra has had the most lopsided losses to Open teams, so they will probably be out which means it will come down to Troy or Poly so let's look at both teams:
: : : Record head-to-head:
: : : Troy beat Poly early in the season by 1 point in overtime.
: : : Record vs consensus SS Open teams:
: : : POLY (1-7) - 40 point crushing by Etiwanda and 20 point loss to MD, double-digit losses to Windward and SC, but Rosary, BM and Redondo losses were 6 points or less. 8 point victory over Rosary.
: : : TROY (1-2) - 20 point losses to MD and Windward, 12 point win over BM.
: : : Record vs non-Open teams:
: : : POLY (16-1) - Only loss was to Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) who is currently ranked 23 in California.
: : : TROY (19-4) - Lost to top ranked team in Colorado, also lost to Salesian and Clovis North who are ranked 10 and 14 in California. Also lost to 80th raanked Fairmont Prep in Troy's own tournament.
: : : Based on those records, I'd give the edge to Poly for that 8th spot in the Open. Although they started the season 0-4 they came back strong after that and would likely be the best competition for the other Open teams.
: : : Big VIII Fan, don't even bother asking me for my identity, or my daughter's school, or to meet you in your barrio late at night. If you have a reason you think King should be in the Open more than the other teams I mentioned above then by all means let's hear it and try to back it up with some actual facts. Your 70 point victory over Poly would mean something if it wasn't Riverside Poly.
: : My daughter played for Norco 3 years ago, graduated and is now a bench player at a lower D2 school. I have no affiliation with King, but was curious as to why you always bash on them and their coach. He's a good coach. Girls want to play for him and hes well respected. He's won league titles and lifted his program when it was in pretty bad shape when he got it years back. He now has you and others discussing whether or not he belongs amongst the 8 best or a high seed in the top division 1. That alone days a lot. Im not defending their schedule; it was weak. But the big games they played, they won. Hope they represent the area well, because we dont have many teams that are being discussed as great other than King and Etiwanda.
: Keep it up Martinez. Keep doing you dog. The fact you got all these people talking about you and your kids means your doing something right. The more your name and your schools name keeps coming out of their mouth, the more you win. Worry when they stop talking about you. MlK representing for real.
I'm not sure why you think I'm "hating." There's no emotion here. I have said several times that I like the King team and I have wished them well also. I don't know the coach and have no opinion on him except that he has beat the teams on the schedule. I have spelled out my reasoning on a couple of different posts why I don't think King is worthy of Open selection over other teams who have more losses but have played a tougher schedule.
Big VIII Fan, you are the one who calls people out and asks what is their school affiliation and belittles other divisions rather than simply state your point and move on or give any sort of support for your argument. You've actually been nasty about it a couple of times in your posts, suggesting that my daughter must play in division 5 (she doesn't).
The reality is this: King isn't ready. They might get picked for the Open, but they shouldn't because they haven't earned it by playing the tougher non-conference schedule that other schools have played.
Once again, this "hater" says good luck to King in the D1 playoffs and in the future. Your best kids seem to be Juniors and younger so hopefully you can add some depth and make a run at the Open next year.
