: : : Of the big games this week, Westchester beat Palisades, Granada held off El Camino, and Westchester cruised by Hamilton. Birmingham beat Cleveland, but due to PG injury, Cleveland has really fallen off.
: : : Based on that, here is where I see the Open Division as of today:
: : : 1. Granada Hills - Top seed locked up even if Birmingham pulls off an incredible upset on Friday.
: : : 2. Westchester - Pretty much settled in as 2 seed.
: : : 3. Narbonne - Winning league should give them edge over ECR.
: : : 4. El Camino - could have won last night but didn't, so most likely headed for a 4 seed and yet another semi's match up with Granada.
: : : 5. Eagle Rock - I like Hamilton here, but Eagle Rock will be undefeated league champ so will probably get 5.
: : : 6. Hamilton - Blowout at hands of Westchester probably is going to send them to Narbonne in opening round.
: : : 7. Birmingham - They can argue for 6, as they play a tough schedule. Either way, they would be in tough vs. Narbonne or Westchester.
: : : 8. Palisades/Legacy - This should probably go to Legacy, but they have played a horrible schedule. I don't think either one wants this spot as a trip to Granada Hills is the reward.
: : :
: : : Overall, a pretty solid field. If this holds, the potential semi-finals will be good games. Even the consolation rounds look to be entertaining.
: : : One more update either Friday or Saturday will final predictions.
: : :
: : : Looking forward to thoughtful, civil discussion on this list.
: : We might as well just skip the playoffs and give Granada the Championship.
: While I certainly make Granada the favorites, any of the four top teams could win.
: Narbonne will give Granada problems with their press and constant pressure defense. Berfield will really have to work hard to get open shots.
: Westchester is more athletic and physical than Granada. Are they better? No, but if the refs really let them play, it could be a problem for Granada.
: El Camino almost beat them last night without their starting shooting guard. Again, are they better? No. But Khalfani is the best player in the City, and when you have the best player you always have a chance.
: I agree Granada should win it this year. But that doesn't mean it is a sure thing. They aren't so much better that something couldn't happen on a given night. UCONN was a sure thing the last two years also.
: Narbonne lost to Westchester and Carson recently. I believe that will change some things up and ECR will probably take 2 or 3. I'm pretty sure that one of the other two will take 4th, based on that loss to Carson. Losing to Granada is different than losing to Carson. That should change the above projections.
