: : With the strike appearing to be over, games should all be back on starting on Friday.

: : Here is where I see the Open Division as of today:

: : 1. Granada Hills - Locked in at 1 unless ECR can beat them at home next week.
: : 2. Narbonne - Just cruising along waiting for seedings. Could drop to 3 if ECR beats GH next week.
: : 3. El Camino - win over Valencia and good match up vs Brentwood this week to get ready for rematch with GH next week at home.
: : 4. Westchester - have games with Pali and Hamilton next week to solidify a top 4 seed.
: : 5. Hamilton - has good games with Pali and Westchester to get ready for playoffs. Win over Westchester could get them a Top 4 seed.
: : 6. Eagle Rock - No tough games before playoffs - will that hurt them down the line? Can't see them moving up much.
: : 7. Birmingham - tough games at ECR and GH with a solid Cleveland team in between to get ready for playoffs.
: : 8. Legacy - No real hard games before playoffs, but I think they can hold on for 8th slot.

: : On the outside looking in: Palisades, Cleveland, Carson, Taft

: :
: : The top 3 seeds are probably going to be determined by the ECR vs. GH game next week.

: : If ECR wins, they probably get the 1 seed, GH gets 2, and Narbonne 3. I would have to do a dive into league tie-breakers to confirm. It gets down to record vs common opponents, win against highest ranked MaxPreps team, etc. But the winner of West Valley League is getting the 1 seed.

: : If GH wins, then it should stay GH-Narbonne-ECR.

: : Thankfully, it looks like the strike is over and kids can get back to school and learning and back on the fields/courts!

: : Looking forward to thoughtful, civil discussion on this list.

: Granada has been ranked much higher all through out the season than ElCo. GH with a 12pt win at home already in the books vs ElCo. ElCo would need to get a W vs Brentwood on 1/26 then blow out GH by 20+ on 1/30. Then maybe they could be "considered" for the top seed. A close win is not going to get it done. That won't jump them 50+ spots (when looking at the State rankings).

The way the City does the seedings is not always conventional. Rankings don't really figure in and point differential in individual games have been ignored in the past also.

Usually the biggest "controversies" with the seedings involve one or both of these teams.

However, since it is the strongest league, the winner of the West Valley League will get the top seed. If ECR wins next week, it creates a tie in league standings.

So you need to go through the league tie breakers. I don't know the order but one of them is record vs common opponents. They both lost to Sierra Canyon. GH beat Harvard Westlake, but lost to Valencia. ECR did the opposite. I think they end up still tied after all that.

At some point it is win against highest team in MaxPreps. Right now, GH has that with Harvard Westlake. But ECR has game with Brentwood this week and they are ranked higher than HW. So a win in that game is pretty important for them.

There are a few possibilities. But let's say ECR wins Wednesday, but GH ends up winning league on tie breakers. City could give ECR the 2 seed over Narbonne because of the addition of Khalfani as they consider transfers in and out and also injuries. Or they could just leave them at 3 as Narbonne would be a league champion, even of a lower ranked league.

It will be an interesting week upcoming.
