: : : : : : : Hello Coaches,

: : : : : : : I always wonder why the city does not have open watch list like the southern section? Let's create one on socalhoops. Here we go!

: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : Granada Hills
: : : : : : : Narbonne
: : : : : : : El Camino Real
: : : : : : : Hamilton
: : : : : : : Eagle Rock
: : : : : : : Westchester
: : : : : : : Carson
: : : : : : : Legacy
: : : : : : : Birmingham
: : : : : : : Palisades
: : : : : : : Dorsey

: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : What your opinion? Coaches help me out!

: : : : : :
: : : : : : They did put out a list last year, but with everything going on with the strike, I don't think they have done any kind of polling this season.

: : : : : : Your list pretty much sums it up.

: : : : : : But I might swap Cleveland with Dorsey, though I don't think either actually makes it.

: : : : : Taft may take Dorsey's spot

: : : : West Valley League is top league this year.

: : : : Besides the usual GH and ECR, Birmingham is still good and Cleveland and Taft are improved too.

: : : : Prediction:

: : : : 1. GH/ECR (I think they split)
: : : : 3. Birmingham
: : : : 4. Taft
: : : : 5. Cleveland
: : : : 6. Chatsworth

: : : : Of course the strike may mess all this up!

: : : That 8th spot for open is going to be a toss up because the city is so down it really hard to find 8 good teams in city

: :
: : City Open (As of Now)

: : In no order:

: : Granada Hills
: : ECR
: : Birmingham
: : Narbonne
: : Westchester
: : Hamilton
: : Eagle Rock

: : Last spot from Pali, Carson, Legacy

: In the event of a strike by teachers--which is looking likely-- there may be no playoffs for LA City. They've already issued a bulletin announcing that during a strike there will be no LA City Section games or practices in any sport, including basketball. It would be really unfortunate, but unless the UTLA and the District can reach an accord, I wouldn't count on playoffs at all for City Section.

It depends on how long the strike is in effect. If it is a short period, schools have the option to try and reschedule or take a "no contest", which is basically it was never scheduled. The playoffs could be condensed, i.e. play 3 games per week. The issue is they have to deal with the State Playoff dates, which are not going to be changed.

If the strike lasts for a significant time, they could choose to forgo State and just have Section playoffs.

However, I don't see the strike lasting for too long, as eventually a court will step in and say it is causing harm/danger to the community and order them back to work.

At that point they could file a strike notice again, and the process would repeat.

I think once it starts next week, there will be pressure to reach a compromise sooner rather than later.
