: : Hello and Happy New Year to all the wonderful girls' high school basketball fanatics out there. I'm from the Santa Clarita Valley and for some years, actively kept up with the how the high school basketball teams would fare up out here. So far as of now I haven't been keeping up much, but would like to know how teams out here are doing. I'm wondering who's up and who's down this year. I know Valencia and Canyon ran the table when I used to closely pay attention to how things went out here.

:
: First of all, depending on when you were following the league, the talent is not the same. But that's true everywhere.

: That being said, Valencia and Saugus are the top dogs right now. Saugus got a couple good wins last week to win a tournament, but when they played Valencia a couple weeks ago got smacked by almost 20.

: Canyon is in rebuilding mode, with some size and pieces, but they need to learn how to actually play (if that makes sense). Hart is just OK. West Ranch is not good.

: The league title will most likely come down to the Valencia vs Saugus rematch in a couple of weeks. If Valencia wins, they win league outright; if Saugus wins it's most likely a split crown.

: The Foothill league is not the same as it was 2-5 years ago. It has taken a dip. There is some young talent, but will take a few years before they become relevant and make some noise. Valencia is still ok, but not where they were a few years ago. Canyon has some young bigs that can become something in the basketball world with some good practice and improvement.
