: : : : : : Popscout Girls Top 10 - City Section
: : : : : : December 16, 2018
: : : : : Narbonne and Westchester are too low. They have played some quality comp.
: : : : : On the other hand, Hamilton has played NO ONE. 8-0 against lower City teams is not going to get it done against the top tier ones.
: : : : : Right now, Granada is 1, and 2-4 is some combination of Narbonne, Westchester and ECR. At this point, you can make an argument for any combo of those three.
: : : : : After that, there is a big drop off.
: : : : : Looking forward to what some of these teams can do the next two weeks during holiday tourneys.
: : : : : Actually, Hamilton has beaten #4 ranked Carson on Carson's home court in a good game, and has also beaten #9 ranked Van Nuys and bubble teams Taft and San Fernando pretty easily. But there's a long way to go. How Hamilton handles their January schedule will tell the story.
: : : Another hater looking for one mistake so they can throw Popscout under the bus without even checking the games or better yet doesn't even watch or support girls hoops...smh
: : The poster who says they beat number X on this list is missing the point that most of the teams on the list aren't that good. I'm a City fan, but the truth is there are four good teams, a few OK teams and that's it. The boys side is much more competitive than the girls.
: : The good teams (GH, Narbonne, Westchester, ECR) have gone and played good SS teams - win or lose. This is especially true of ECR who played three SS Open level teams in a week (Sierra Canyon, Alemany, Serra). And Granada and Narbonne have played the Chaminades, Harvard Westlakes, etc. Westchester lost to Camarillo, but no one on this list besides these four can be competitive or beat that squad either.
: : As for the last poster, not trying to bash on Popscout - he is out there promoting the game. But I am also not going to blindly agree with his rankings because I go to games too and can see who the good teams are. And for those teams I haven't seen, I can look at who they have played and who those teams have played and make an assessment.
: : I think Popscout understands that these are very early season rankings, and expects them to change as the year moves along. Every ranking will only be a comparison of City teams at a particular point in time. As stated, how these teams handle their January schedules will tell the story. Also, just because a City team's schedule includes a Chaminade or Harvard Westlake doesn't make them good. And that's because Chaminade and Harvard-Westlake are not that good this year.
Chaminade and Harvard Westlake are not the teams they have been, but are still better than nearly every City team. Better coaches, better players. So yes, playing them is better than playing a low level City team.
It will all play out over the next few weeks.
Hamilton has played no one. Carson has literally almost played no one. They are 2-1 and their two wins were crushes of teams no one has heard of.
Rankings lists are just for discussion, but hopefully with some logic from posters (a big ask I know! LOL).
I look at it as if team x played team y on a neutral court today, who do I think would win?
Right now, I would take Granada against any team on this list. I would take Narbonne against anyone and I think they would give Granada trouble due to their style of play. At this point, I would go ECR third then Westchester.
And let's remember, some schools are getting transfers in a couple weeks. That will shake up any rankings by mid-January after we see how they play with their new teams. Potentially the best one is at ECR - if she can blend in and still do what she can do - she is probably the most talented player in the City Section.
So again, I appreciate any of these lists, but I just don't think this one is that accurate based on what I have seen.
